Sorry about the nerd moment, but this should be no surprise coming from the guy who has a life-sized Stormtrooper standing guard at the front door of the Palladium offices and a 7 foot, 3 inch Alien from the Aliens movie watching over him in his office. Hmm, do you think the Alien is telepathically sending me ideas for books and new villains and monsters?

 

We hope your week is going well. We had a super-positive response to the Magical Fantasy Sale (and the sale from the previous week). We don’t know if the Dungeons & Dragons movie has everyone getting their fantasy groove on or whether it is excitement over the Palladium Fantasy RPG’s 40th anniversary this year or the new, expanded Yin-Sloth Jungles sourcebook, or all of the above, but fantasy sales have been hot even before the sale. Thank you for your support and please keep the orders coming.

 

Office mania. We have been busy dealing with all kinds of stuff the past week. At the top of the list is preparing the final logistical stage for the fulfillment of the Titan Robotics™ Kickstarter. The poker deck and different versions of the books are all at the printer, and we are making sure everything else is in stock and ready to go! Of course, the hardcovers will take several more weeks to print, sew, and bind for the June release, and we are working out the details for the shipping arrangements. Shipping overseas, especially to the UK, has its challenges, but we are getting there! Our goal is a flawless Kickstarter fulfillment. There is a new update from Sean on the Kickstarter page and elsewhere in this Update.

 

UPDATE: Yin-Sloth Jungles™ Expanded and Updated to 2nd Edition Rules: I love the additional, expanded and improved material to this book, and I’m confident you’ll love it too. If you liked the original Yin-Sloth Jungles book, you will go bonkers over this one. The setting, lore, characters, and opportunities for adventure are deeper and richer than ever. Still looking like a May release.

 

COMING Back in Print Soon: Rifts® Africa and Dragons & Gods (Fantasy). We try not to let books go out of print for long. Both of these titles are fan favorites so we are glad to have sent them in for reprints along with 6 other low stock titles. They should be available by mid-May.

UPDATE: Kevin’s eBay Store for collectibles. Alex and Kev have added some new art and negatives. The one–of–a–kind negatives are from early books and each lets you own a piece of Palladium history (and art) on the cheap. Kevin is also considering putting some Ramon Perez and other art up for sale. Savage Rifts® Conversion PDFs reminder from Sean Owen Roberson – We’ve had some of you reaching out to us to ask if pre-orders are eligible to receive the Savage Rifts conversion PDFs for Titan Robotics™ and the Cyberworks™ Collection. Many are Savage Worlds fans who have had their interest piqued by Rifts® for Savage Worlds and are unfamiliar with Palladium’s general way of doing things. First off, welcome! Second, I’d like to make a few points to help clarify everyone’s expectations:

  • There are technically two Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) conversion documents. The first is the Titan Robotics™ SWADE conversion. The second is the Cyberworks™ Collection SWADE conversion, which was a stretch goal that Kevin and I decided to grant to all backers as an early Christmas present. For brevity, I call the docs “Savage Titan Robotics” and “Savage Cyberworks” but be advised that these are purely rules conversions, they won’t mean much without the context of Palladium’s Titan Robotics™ or Cyberworks™ Collection sourcebooks.
  • Palladium Books, unlike Pinnacle Entertainment Group (the makers of the Savage Worlds RPG), does NOT release PDFs for public sale immediately upon the release of print books. Without getting technical about business strategies, etc., please just respect that our two companies have very different market approaches.
  • This means that crowdfunding campaigns and pre-orders that include PDFs are often a unique chance to purchase PDFs at a discounted pledge or pre-order bundle price.

 

Both Savage Rifts® conversion documents are strictly Kickstarter rewards, HOWEVER the Mechanoids® (and therefore the Cyberworks™) content is especially so due to our current licensing agreement with Pinnacle Entertainment. I was super duper clear about this during the Kickstarter and all of the related interviews, but it seems new fans still got confused and were under the impression that these items would be put up for sale as PDFs as soon as they are finished. This is definitely not the case. That said, we’re bummed if any well-meaning fans get left out of the fun due to what seems to have been a fairly common misconception. – Sean

Palladium Collectibles – at Kevin’s Online Toy & Collectibles eBay Store

I am adding new collectibles and Palladium negatives over the next several weeks, so check ‘em out. Alex and I will try to post new items on a regular basis, so check in every week or so to see what’s new.

One-of-a-kind Palladium Books negatives (special and rare collectibles). Negatives are always very popular items at the Palladium Open House, Gen Con, and conventions, and are catching on as rare collectibles, unique in and of themselves. Before digital printing, pages of a book were laid out by hand on a board, and each page was photographed. The plastic film negatives were then “ganged” on a massive sheet of Mylar, 16 pages per big sheet, and the printing plates were made from the negatives – everything white, printing black. We have been cutting them loose and making them available to you. I am only keeping a few dozen pages of negatives and a few complete books for myself, the rest are all being slowly offered to you, in no particular order.

  • Each is truly unique, attractive, and fun to have.
  • Own a piece of Palladium Books and RPG history you will treasure.
  • Each was used to print the very book you may have in your collection (1981-2004).
  • Each signed in silver ink by Kevin Siembieda, the founder and owner of Palladium Books. He is also the game designer and often the author or co-author of the book from which the negative originates. And some negatives bear his artwork.
  • Each signed negative comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
  • Each signed negative is a one-of-a-kind work of art (on rare occasions, two-of-a-kind if a page or section of pages were replaced or a second edition was made) that resembles woodcut art, and a very dynamic conversation piece.
  • Each signed negative is on a white board inside a clear plastic bag.
  • Negatives looks fabulous matted or framed! Fits in an 8x10 inch matt opening. Each neg is roughly 8½ x 11 inches.
  • Prices vary depending on the title, the art, and quality of the negative. Note: Many have scratches, or blemishes, and/or an opaque medium on the negative. Still, they look great and are a piece of RPG history. We recommend you carefully examine the photographs of each item to avoid disappointment.
  • We have been making the negatives available, in no particular order, for a number of years, and will continue to do so. However, cutting them loose, signing and bagging is a time consuming process.
  • Note: The negatives from the TMNT RPG, TMNT Adventures, and some Rifts® titles are already sold out. Moreover, the negatives from many titles were destroyed, so when you see one you like, get it when you can. Enjoy.

Original art – My Ebay store is one of the few places where you can find original artwork by me (Kevin Siembieda), Kevin Long, Charles Walton, and others, as well as one-of-a-kind negatives from classic Palladium books (they look awesome framed), and other Palladium memorabilia. Some are concept sketches, others are finished works of art, as well as a selection of prints and posters.

Closing Thoughts – Works in Progress

Sean had suggested I write about one of my favorite subjects: how teamwork makes the dream work. I took a couple of runs at it, but it either turned into a multi-page essay or I just hated it.

Part of my dilemma is I have so many matters taking up space in my head at the moment that I just cannot focus on any one thing today. I have the awesome updated and expanded Yin-Sloth Jungles to finish, my contributions to Rifts® Bestiary Volume Two to finish, Rifts® Antarctica waiting for me, and a whole bunch of meetings and business opportunities in the coming days. By the way, ALL of them (okay, most of them) are good things. Great even. If you knew half of it you would be overjoyed before you fainted from the excitement and fell over. These are the kinds of problems you want. Everything Palladium needs to restructure and grow and continue our legacy for the next 40 years has been falling into place. This has been happening since the pandemic began. Weird, right? Instead of freaking out, the pandemic re-energized and focused me. I had already been making plans for Palladium’s future and it was time to get started. So I did and we’re looking awesome.

I can’t do it alone. I need a great team. A team built not just on raw talent and skill, but a unifying company culture and a shared vision. I have that with Sean, Wayne, Alex, Kathy and Crystal, and with many of our freelancers too. And we are adding more talent and expanding the possibilities every month.

There’s been some tough decisions, but everything Sean and I are doing is to move the company forward, make us stronger, and give you the products you want. One of those decisions has been to focus on RPGs exclusively, at least for the next several years. That may sound like a no-brainer, but it has meant ending old alliances and business arrangements with certain friends and associates to start fresh and bring in new blood, new energy, new ideas and new skill sets. That requires a lot of planning, hard work, and logistics.

Sometimes, even though we are working our tails off, it feels like everything is taking too long and going too slow. We want to wow you and make you happy – and we will – but all in due time. Things are starting to come together and our work behind the scenes is becoming apparent, but it’s all a work in progress and we have only just begun. I’m not talking just about new products, but new structure, foundation, and plans for the immediate and the future. It feels like everything is changing: staff members, freelancers, printers, accountants, the marketplace, the economy ... everything. That’s why we cannot share everything with you until the time is right, because to grow stronger we need to be flexible and nimble and change as opportunity presents itself. We have already had a couple of plans fall through and be replaced by bigger and better opportunities. We are wheeling and dealing and making alliances. It’s thrilling and fun, but also challenging and hard work. It will all be worth it, because you get better service and more products from Palladium, and we are building a foundation to carry the company forward for decades to come.

Thank you for hanging in there with us and for your suggestions and support. It is appreciated and vital to Palladium’s growth. It may not seem like you’ve been heard at first, but you have been, and great things are in motion. You will not be disappointed by what’s coming.
