No! not the mood for that!

I meant things like movies, books, comics! stuff like that, what things get you in the mood to play rifts and what inspires you?

Here's my list,
Movies:
The Island (not only does it show an imensly effective use of propaganda, but it has hover bike combat! It almost makes up for the fact that it's a bad movie!)
Hellboy (I cannot watch this movie without wanting to create a scrupulous brodkill rogue scholar with a bigassed revolver...)
Logan's Run (very good demonstration of what a laser weapon fireing would actually look like)
Serenity (Joss Weadon is my master now.)
star wars episodes 3,4,5,6 (classic, however we should have expected episodes 1-3 to suck after the ewok movie)
Television
Firefly (if you have not watched this series then you should stop callingyourself a fan of science fiction)
Farscape (farscape is as far as I have seen the best aproxomation of what phase world is actually like, and the best television I have ever watched.)
Star trek: Deep space nine, seasons 3-7 (once the captaion shaves his head this becomes the best star trek series ever)
Battlestar galactica the new series (wonderful)
Buffy the vampire slayer/angel (do I really need to explain?)
Anime
Neon Genesis Evangelion (PM me if you understood the series[j/k], otherwise do what I do, watch it and hide in a closet for a few days.)
Trigun (exactly what the new west should look like)
Desert Punk (also exactly what the new west should look like)
Cowboy Bebop (if you have not seen it I will not be able to explain it, but if you ever loved any modern media you will love this.)
Bubblegum Crisis (either the old or the new, power armor at its best)
Martian succsesser Nadesico (space combat and cool power armor and weird love triangles... fun!)

Nice list, ratbastard :D

To that I'll add:

Pitch Black/Dark Fury/Chronicles of Riddick
Alien/Aliens
Mad Max Trilogy
Damnation Alley (...anyone remember this one?)
Planet of the Apes, Omega Man & Soylent Green (Heston RULZ!)
Final Fantasy: Spirits Within (totally RIFTS like!)

James Cameron's Dark Angel
Robotech (of course! :D )
Thundercats
Galaxy Rangers

Fist of the Northstar
Berserk
s-CRY-ed
Bakurestu Tenshi (Crazy Burst Angel!)
Monster City/Demon City Shinjuku
Midnight Eye
Silent Mobius
any anime with Sexual Deviant Demonoid Overfiends (best example of all hell truly breaking loose when a rift opens up IMHO :demon: )

There's prolly alot more that gets me in the mood for RIFTS/Robotech/BTS/Phase World, but that's just a bit.

Errrm...I should hope not...that kind of thing probably shouldn't happen in-game.

Anyway...I can't really think of any movies...maybe The Matrix or Star Wars, which just make me want to play RPGs. I don't really like anime though so none of those.

you dont like anime?

you is one foul man socom... but I don't think most demons are coming to earth for a booty call- some of them, but not all of them.

Damnation Alley with the giant scorpions and killer cockroaches?? LOL Classic..

the other three are classics as well ... I'd love to see Omega Man again.

I can't believe no one mentioned Blade Runner!

I admit...sometimes the dark side grabs hold of me and holds me oh so tightly in her warm embrace :D Still, ya gotta admit, booty call or no, demons running rampant from an open rift...gets ya right there!!!

Couple more flicks for ya:

Nemesis (i think they made 4 parts to this Direct-to-Video saga)
The Postman (yes, the one with Kevin Costner)
Waterworld (again, with the Kevin-nator!)
Terminator (especially thinking about the Future War)
Wild Geese, Uncommon Valor, Black Hawk Down & Tears of the Sun (just to get them Mercenary juices flowing)

Blade Runner is the best one so far. Roy Batty - half Crazy, half Juicer.

Fiery the angels fell...deep thunder rolled...

...and my favorite quote:

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Fifth Element & Bladerunner...definite inspiration for the uber-city-sprawl that is Chi-Town.

Full Metal Jacket - love the movie, but other than twisting it into a Coalition soldier's view of the War Against Tolkeen, doesn't get the ole RIFTS juices flowing.

Apocalypse Now - I can definitely see a RIFTS adventure based on that! Hmmm...suddenly feel...inspired!!!

Now, if there was only a way to fit in them Sexual Deviant Demonoid Overfiends into the plot! :demon:

j/k

A great list so far.

Has anyone mentioned Night Stalker the original series, X-Files.
What about Judge Dredd?
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

I personally see X-files as a BTS or Nightbane insirpiration.

Any time someone says "Let's play d&d (any edition except 1st) I get in the mood for Rifts. DOWN with wotc. Game Killers! :x

We're all geeks here, fess up. Unless it's something like American Tale II: Fivel Goes West.

FINE THEN :x Harry Potter! HARRY POTTER! I love the books, I watch the movies... I've been through each book 6 times... and then, then I want to read them again. It makes me want to role play, not just rifts, but everything.

Really tho, I think about gaming every day... I even considered working on another Nightbane campaign today... or I thought about doing some research for it anyway.

I'm really a fan of two things.... Palladium books first, Harry Potter second. I spend all my time here on the boards, and I tab browse the Leaky Cauldron and the other HP sites... even listen to a couple podcasts.

0_0 You know what rocked... Listening to the open house live while I was waiting for us to leave for Michigan. That was a great listening experience.

Like I said before, those old school video games always always always make me want to play/design Rifts. I was watching my husband play a game with big mechanical snakes flying in the air (You can't expect me to know the name of the game. psh.) So I designed it into the Star system I have been working on for 6 years....

They fly around the huge floating city that is barely in the atmosphere of a gas giant... YAY.

Good point! I *LOVE* the Harry Potter movies, books, and audio books! The world ROCKS!

Hm...Palladium: Harry Potter.

Hmmm....

Hmmmmmm.....

My husband runs 2nd edition games... and he's dying to make a wand mage... I told him that the HP Lexicon has a list of all the spells and what they do.

I also visit Elfwood daily. There is a ton of good artwork (and bad) that help me visualize ideas. I've got folders and folders dedicated to characters, cities, weapons, landscapes, and then another folder for reference for my own cheesy artwork.

Because a lot of the clothing (and it's pretty freeking weird sometimes) makes me think of futuristic styles and alien fashion. I'm a dork, but an artist too... so I think about stuff like that.
