RFMSr. Arms Weapons, Come one come all.

Unread post by bigbobsr6000 »

Well here is my meager attempt to make up some weapons of my own. I need feedback.

Note: Due to possible company name confusion and on advice from legal section the company name is now RFMSr. Arms.

Good start!
We need more independent arms dealers(if only to clog up the 'Burbs' arms market or provide stuffing for the Splynn Cimensional Bazaar).

Great ideas, but I'm gonna have to nitpick here a little bit.

It seems to me that your handgun and rifle are firing the same ammunition.

So how do these bullets do 4D6 damage fired from the pistol, 6D6 damage fired from the rifle and that's SDC or MDC depending on the ammo type?

What allows these rounds the capability to do so much megadamage (most MD rounds for otherwise SDC guns are 2D6 MD each or less)?

Also, how are you fitting 30 .45 rounds into the grip of your pistol?

Not trying to come down on you, the idea is great (I always am in favor of more slugthrowers in rifts) but I think there is still a bit of detail work required to flesh these things out.

Really, really extended long magazines? :D

"Interesting idea there, pintle-mounting your pistol on the end of a walking stick."
"Walking stick? Pintle-mount? This is the extra-plus large magazine attachment!"

Man in business suit take the podium, taps mike. "Are we ready?", he asks as he shuffles through some papers and note cards. "Yes, okay."

"Glad to have you all here today at this press conference. Yes, sir you have a question?"

Jefffar wrote:Great ideas, but I'm gonna have to nitpick here a little bit. It seems to me that your handgun and rifle are firing the same ammunition. So how do these bullets do 4D6 damage fired from the pistol, 6D6 damage fired from the rifle and that's SDC or MDC depending on the ammo type?

"Excellent question." Has he shuffles papers and cards. "Aw..here we are."
Reading and glancing up at audience.
"The pistol fires the type round in the mag that is standard .45cal size. The difference in SD/MD is in the round itself. The MD rd is a company secret mixture of MD materials and depleted uranium not harmful to anyone and coated with chemical alloy that reduces the friction and greatly increases the Foot/Pounds delivered to target." Looking for more notes. "The difference in damage dealt by the rifle, is the rifles unique design to impart greater velocity to the round and other specialties that add to their process. Which I am not at liberty to discuss."

"Next question? Yes you there."

Jefffar wrote:What allows these rounds the capability to do so much megadamage (most MD rounds for otherwise SDC guns are 2D6 MD each or less)?

"Yes, well as I explained in answer to the first question. Plus," more paper shuffling. "..Well that about covers it as I explained it earlier."

"Another question? You in the back....Yes, you..."

Jefffar wrote:Also, how are you fitting 30 .45 rounds into the grip of your pistol?

"Ah, that is a good question. Here let me show you." He holds up an E-clip
and pistol. "I assure you this is a mock up of the real thing, it is not real, so please do not be alarmed." He puts the extended E-clip in the magazine well and it locks in. The magazine extends out ot the magazine well about six inches. "That's how." Holding it up for all to see. Puts in away in his case by him.

"Are there anymore questions? Okay, how about you."

Jefffar wrote:Not trying to come down on you, the idea is great (I always am in favor of more slugthrowers in rifts) but I think there is still a bit of detail work required to flesh these things out.

"Well, thank you young man. I'll be sure let the R&D folks to get right on it"
Looks at watch. "I see we have to leave. Sorry, no more questions, please. Thank you all for your questions and input. And remember, RFM Arms is here to serve your every weapon need. Bye, now." Waves as he leaves the stage.

Excellent weapons! Great start! I'm looking forward to more. Hopefully you can provide a little history on the company!
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

Id standarize damages IAW Palladiums recent values. I hate rolling buckets of dice. I certianly dont even own 5D10 to roll your damages. I DO have many D6 and D4 however. Heck, I dont even have a D12 any more, let alone TEN of them! Thats so "D&D".

I do understand that you are trying to show a different spread of damage from other existing weapons, but there is much to be said about the simple 1D4X10.
I want to see from Palladium:
Updated Aug 2015
-Rifts: Dark Woods/Deep South, Space 110 PA, Scandinavia
-Mechanoids: Space (MDC)
-Robotech: Errata for Marines timeline, Masters Deluxe with SC and UEEF gear, Spaceships
-Updated Errata for post-2006 printings of Rifts books
-Searchable, quality PDFs/E-pubs of current Rifts titles

First and foremost thanks for your input. You are correct in your second statement, that is what I am intending to do. As for the type die, I am going to stick with what I have posted.

Please Kagashi, feel free (and anybody else) to adjust any and all stats given to cater to your own gaming needs. Change the damage dice and/or number to your liking.

Thanks, again, Big Bob................................. :D

agreed. look at Ramjet rounds. they use a rocket booster in the round to boost projectile velocity (and thus kinetic impact), and at best they triple the SD.

the bandit big bore revolver does 1D6 md, and it's a .50short using high explosive shaped charge warheads.

Triax uses large bore (12 gauge ish) projectiles with high explosive shaped charge warheads, to get to 4D6 md.

oh and, "depleted uranium harmless to everyone" is a contradition. all depleted uranium is harmful, it's just that DU is U235, a more stable isotope of U238. both are alpha emmiters, which is a mostly harmless radiation unless the U or Du is taken internally (ingestion or breathing in the dust, which is a typical side effect of shooting it at stuff)), at which point it is very dangerous. DU and U are both highly dangerous materials that need special care when used.

sorry, the first rule of science fiction is to respect science. you can't rewrite the laws of physics because it's inconveinent.
even magic isn't really violating natural laws, but rather is a new subset of them.

the nature of kinetic impact, newtons laws, and the rest cannot be suspended through vasiline and wishful thinking.

from an SDC perspective, your stuff's pretty good. it's only the MDC aspect that's flawed.

i'd suggest the following if you want MD rounds that are closer to what we see in canon, using your DU+specially designed bore set up.
treat them like Ramjet rounds of the same caliber. 3x the damage, or 1 md each.

keep in mind the DU still has to be treated carefully, but you should be able to claim a FMJ using DU instead of lead and not have to worry as much about handling. alpha particles are blocked by just about anything, heck paper will stop them, but the rounds will still fragment and leave contamination when they hit a target

personally i'd also claim a Magnum powder load. more kick (maybe requiring a minimum PS), but it would definately boost up the muzzle velocity (like ramjets do). just machine the receiver/barrel out of MDC ceramics instead of SDC metals. (also allows you to claim ultra-smooth low friction surfaces instead of using lubricants, which would not last long under the heat of gunfire)

generally, unless your using explosive rounds, your not going to get much from projectile weapons md wise. when a 120mm cannon can only claim 2D4 md, it's hard to do the same with pistols and rifles.

One way to test them....

Just wait a moment...

CELEBRITY NAKED SE ***BLAM,BLAM,BLAM,BLAM*** Splorch

"Hmmm....Pistol tends to buck a little more than it should...with the heavier propulsive charge on the shell for that added velocity, you really need to add a bit more weight under the barrel to compensate for the recoil...though armor-piercing shells are probably not a good choice for a soft target like that...you saw how they just punched through...leaves a lot of dangerous flying lead downrange...what we really need is a good magadamage fragmenting round...soft penetration, but big blast afterwards, take a chunk out from the inside....
Otherwise, the action on the gun's good...

I will have R&D get right on a "spammer seeking" explosive round. Or an "anti-spammer" ionic pulse cannon. You know like some of the weapons in the old cartoons that had a setting for rabbit, cat, dog, mice, etc.

Make it something suitably messy and graphic...and painful...I may not be able to respond as I'd like to those who pollute our forums, but I can always dream....

A 'Pop-Up Head-Popper' would also be nice...

True...the invisible microwave beam makes it hard to detect...but there's something not so satisfying about pointing what looks like a mini-rectenna at somebody and waiting for them to go *querrk!*...Admittedly, though, the feedback on the phone when you aim at telemarketeers is nice, though...gives them a moment to wonder waht went wrong before they go *mmmPOP*

You can tell I hate telemarketeers, spammers, and pop-ups...most of my ammunition budget goes to eradicating these blights on my time... :D

Distribution extent/focus of sales for RFMSr ? Nice to know where they're focusing their sales....and in what regions "out of the main focus area' where one can expect the prices to go up/down... That would also give a good idea of what clientele they're favoring(d-bees, ex-tolkeenites, Pecos Raiders, mercenaries, wilderness folk, humans on the fringes of CS lands, etc...)

Just trying to get a feel for where these guys lie as a corporation....Front for d-bee operations, up-and-coming-independents, disgruntled former employees of an established arms company striking out on their own, small kingdom with a 'nationalized' local arms company(probably the highest tech in the realm) that's equipping the local militia/army AND earning income from outside....
You know, the background stuff...

Nice additions! I like the mercury rounds! Very nasty! I worked in the environmental field and had to deal with it! It's scary stuff!

Cinnabar...great stuff...looks cool, poisonous as all out, and very useful for industry...
I'd consider it a strategic industrial material on Rifts Earth...

Actually, I think when talking about blowing through SDC armor, it's more like -1 (or whatever) to Target Armor Rating, etc...since SDC structures have an A.R....I'll have to check....Palladium Compendium of Modern Firearms has rules for various speciality ammunition...

Makes it a little easier to blow thru SDC armor though. Nice addition with the new weapon!

Another question.... Does your company produce subsonic rounds?
