To be perfectly honest, spore dischargers are one of the less abusable weapons despite the seeming flaws in the design. Even with the upgrades available they don't become overpowering (8d8, 2400ft range) and are well under the power of things like Vents, Blossom, Rockets, Light Cells, etc with similar upgrades. For that matter, baseline Omega Blasters are far more dangerously powerful than spore dischargers. Lots more range, LOTS more damage, and they're energy weapons - limiting to 1 shot per cannon per melee is a fairly minor setback even after you consider the loss of 2 attacks to do 2d8x10MD per cannon with a 10ft splash. There are a LOT of systems that can be outright eliminated with an 80MD+ attack.
