What PF Sourcebooks do you recommend?

1st edition? 2nd edition? It doesnt matter! Let's just talk Palladium Fantasy.

What PF Sourcebooks do you recommend?

I just picked up PF, just now getting into that series of books, and I was wondering what books you guys recommended the most.

My girlfriend thought Adventures on the High Seas looked cool...

I liked the cover of The Western Empire myself

Monsters and Animals does seem like a good buy...

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything really important in a later book.

You should definetly get Library of Bletherad, its a excellent source of world info. Very good.

Giggles gave a pretty solid reply there. Monsters and Animals and Dragons and Gods are the first two I would recommend, simply to help get your adventures on their feet feeling fully fleshed out. Library of Bletherad is my favorite source book for over all content. Picking up the World Books for the areas you are playing in (see Giggle's post) is the best idea, and then expanding your collection as your adventure dictates.

If you have adventure "themes" you're looking for, regardless of area, here are some useful notes:

Vampires: Western Empire
"Primitive" game: Yin-Sloth
Necromancy: Adventures on the High Seas
Rebellion / Civil War: Northern Hinterlands
Changelings: Island at the Edge of the World

If you have another specific one in mind, ask away :-) I'm sure one of us will be able to assist.

so I guess we can expect a new name change from this Edge? :-)

As Mr. Giggles and J. Lionheart are correct, I think the main books to start anyone off in the PF would be (in this order of bying):
PFRPG main book
Monsters & Animals
Old Ones (covers the Timero Kingdom)
Adventures on the High Seas
Dragons & Gods
Eastern Territories
Library of Brethald
Wolven Empire
(if you can find it)Adventures in the Northern Wilderness
(if you can find it)Further Adventuress in the Northern Wilderness
Northern Hinderlands
Western Empire
Baalgor Wastelands
Yin-Sloth Jungles
Mount Nomero
Island at the Edge of the World
Land of the Damned 1 & 2 (3 is coming soon)

if also notice the list makes a nice "world tour"- except for Old Kingdom and the Land of the South Winds. You really don't need all the books of course, for 1 1/2 years I ran a group in Timero Kingdom just with the first 5 books on my list. The other books do have good info to incorporate tho.
We may be through with the past, but the past is not through with us.

another year come and gone without a PF release. :(

hmm...

back when i was still running pfrpg, i had

main book
high seas
monsters and animals

and basically winged the rest when i needed it...

it wasn't until i started running the other stuff that i stumbled across the 1st ed of many of the books and picked 'em up just to flesh out the collection...

generally, it's been my experience that too many books can spoil the campeign, 'cause you'll feel as though you need to use them all...
just get the books for the areas you wish to run,
and worry not about the rest...

you don't have to tour the world for a good campeign...

I strongly enjoyed and recommend High Seas, Old Ones, and Mount Nimro.
Dragons and Gods too.

Sentinel. you'll be always loved by the German Princess.~Nelly

That's twice in one day Sentinel has cleaned up my mess.~The Galactus Kid.

:ok:

Even better: swap monsters and animals for dragons and gods.

yup. As I prefer Old Ones (for the maps), Adventures on the High Seas, and Eastern Territory.

but my all time favorite is Library of Brethald. actually all the 2nd ed books are good - we just need more of them

More books for the book god

I wouldn't quite say anything. Sure Bill Coffin's done some of PF's best books, but some of his books weren't all that, Baalgor Wastelands and Mt Nimro come to mind as less than stellar books.

Noted.

Still about the same as above, Monsters and Animals, High Seas, Eastern Territories, Old Ones, Western Territories, probably in that order.
