Vehicular Combat

Unread post by Mantisking »

I've been reading through the vehicle combat section recently, and there are some parts that strike me as odd.

For example, avoid the trap of over-calculating the exact number of seconds required for a car going 187mph to catch up with a car going 193mph.

What? A car going 187mph isn't going to catch a car going 193mph. The faster car is going to keep pulling away. If the two speeds were switched, it would make more sense. And if you're wondering, a car going 193 mph would catch and overtake a car going 187mph as long as it started within 131 feet of the other car.

The speed of the ramming/attacking vehicle must exceed 10mph of the vehicle it is attacking. Speeds greater than 10mph above the defending vehicle's constitutes a crash;

Huh? Is there a word missing in that first sentence? "Must exceed 10mph of" makes no sense. "Must exceed by 10mph" makes sense, but then according to the second sentence that's a crash. I think the first sentence should be -- The speed of the ramming/attacking vehicle must be within 10mph of the speed of the vehicle it is attacking.

So, anyone else have any others or care to comment?

On page 140 it says;
A standard thunder and rain storm is only -5%, but an offshore hurricane may be as much as -50%
So I broke it down using real world storm levels.

Aquatic Vehicle Control Roll Modifiers
  • Heavy Chop (waves from 1 to 3 feet): -5%
  • Common Storm (winds up to 18 mph): -5%
  • Tropical Depression (winds from 19 to 38 mph): -10%
  • Tropical Storm (winds from 39 to 74 mph): -15%
  • Category I Hurricane (winds from 75 to 95 mph, waves from 4 to 5 feet): -30%
  • Category II Hurricane (winds from 96 to 110 mph, waves from 6 to 8 feet): -35%
  • Category III Hurricane (winds from 111 to 130 mph, waves from 9 to 12 feet): -40%
  • Category IV Hurricane (winds from 131 to 155 mph, waves from 13 to 18 feet): -45%
  • Category V Hurricane (winds greater than 155 mph, waves higher than 18 feet): -50%
Note: The modifier for Heavy Chop may be combined with Common Storm, Tropical Depression, and Tropical Storm, but it is already figured into the penalties for the Hurricane levels.
