old forum URL a 404 instead of a redirect?

old forum URL a 404 instead of a redirect?

my browser homepage when I click it goes to index.php which has been 404ing the last couple days so I think this is a recent change

clearly the new URL is https://forums.palladiumbooks.com/ so I updated it

Just curious though was there some bug where the old URL couldn't just bounce?

Is the idea that it causes less site strain if people just update their link so there's no data load for a bounce-forward?
