Aboard the USS Dauntless CVE steaming 220 miles South of Iceland

There was a shrill alarm on the bridge.

"Sir we have an incomming Emergency Action Message!"

The captain watched his communications chief and his first officer print the message and then break their code key cards to decript the message. The two men were visibly shaken as they finished decoding the message.

The chief called out "sir this message is authentic" immediately afterwards his first officer called out
"Sir, I concur, this message is authentic....I suggest that you sit down to read this one"

Captain Ramos began to read.

From: President Edward Garder
To: All Surviving Commanders

I wish the news could be good. Unfortunately, I must inform you that the news is extremely bad. According to our satellites, a new continent has arrisen in the missle of the Atlantic...perhaps the tales of Atlantis were not myths at all....perhaps it has returned. This event caused a 1000 foot tall Tsunami that decimated the east and gulf coasts from Maine to Texas. New York, Boston, DC, Miami, New Orleans, Houston and mamy others are gone. The wave traveled inland for hundreds of miles. Our best guess is that at the end of this the ocean level will have risen at least a hundred feet.

Multiple Earth Quakes of 7 to 9 have hit the west coast along with their associated tsunamis. Mount Saint Helens and 9 other Volcanos from Alaska to California have erupted. There are earth quakes arround Yellowstone so that is likely to go off as well. Lets be honest the continental US is likely to be covered in multiple feet of ash. On top of that we are apparently experiencing an invasion of some sort.

Nearly all of the governmental leaders including almost all of the high level military commanders are dead. A quick status check of the navy seems to reveal that roughly 2/3 of our naval vessels are gone. Most of our bases world wide also appear to be gone.

I am not sure how long I personally will survive. Therefore, I am enacting the sole survivor and C.O.G. protocols similar to if we had experienced a nuclear war. I am adding some provisions as follows:

1. The highest ranking individual in the military is likely to be in command of a squadron or naval vessel at sea. Therefore, whom ever that is based on rank and time served in that rank, what ever it is, is now the chairmen of the joint chiefs. I am not quite sure who that individual is or will be. But as of this moment they are promoted to the rank of Admiral with full authority to make field promotions as necessary in all branches.

2. You are now charged with the preservation of life as much as possible. Rescue who you can, but protect your own lives as well.

3. You are charged with the re-establishment of our country. The reality of which is that it may take several generations to do so.

4. When possible, please hold elections and restore our goverment and the rule of law.

I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

Captain's log December 23, 2098

USS Dauntless CVE
Captain James Ramos in command

The Saratoga and half of her escorts were lost with the raising of the new continent which my crew have taken to calling Atlantis. Her surviving escorts were able to effect rescues upon approximatly half of their crew members.

Unfortunately, the admiral and the captain that were aboard the Saratoga were amoung the dead. This has placed me in charge of what is left of the Atlantic Fleet. This is not the way that I wanted to get this command, but I accept it for what it is.

I have ordered all ships in the area of Saratoga and her escort's wreck to perform a marine assault upon the area. Their mission objectives are three fold:
1. Ensure that all survivors have been rescued.
2. Salvage as much as possible - priority to planes, missles, and dry stores.
3. Destroy everything that is not immediately salvagable. It is unacceptable for our tech to fall into enemy hands.

The coast guard and navy vessels surviving near the east coast have been conducting thousands of rescues. I have been in contact with several cruise ships that are near the east coast and have destroyers sent to guard them and participate in rescue operations with them.

Aboard the USS Dauntless CVE steaming 350 miles South of Iceland.

Captain's log December 23, 2098

USS Dauntless CVE
Rear Admiral James Ramos in command

The Russians and Chinese apparently thought that they were under nuclear attack in the middle of these storms and the alien invasion. They launched their nukes and attacked all of our ships. The president ordered our guys to launch also. The Kitty Hawk is sunk just south of the new continent. The Leyete Gulf was sunk in the med. The Corsair was sunk off the coast of Florida just as she was getting under way.

Norfolk is now underwater so that eliminates all of the east coast carriers other then us. If we get through this , I will be issuing comendations for allot folks. That Avenger is still afloat is a testiment to some damn good missle and torpedo defense.

I am sending people to check all of our bases. My people need to have confirmation on all their friends and loved ones. Also we need to rescue our people from the bases if we ever hope to rebuild our forces.

I recieved confirmation from our new joint chief chairman Admiral Sandecker that I am indeed the highest ranked longest served captain in the Atlantic and as such I have been promoted and am in command of all remaining forces in the atlantic including the coast guard which have lost their upper chain of command also.

This is some fine work here. I wouldn't mind seeing anything similar done for land-based forces, if it's been posted.
