long distance role playing
Um call. Roll dice. Dont lie. Wow. Jussayin.
Re: long distance role playing
For a while our group was split, with one of us playing long distance. Using Google +. He would use a dice app on his phone, and then show us the results. And by that, I mean he would face the screen at the camera, then hit the 'roll dice' button, so we could see the dice role. But this particular player has never been one to cheat at fudging his dice anyway. As for long distance, try Sydney Australia (actually a little north of, but that's easiest), with the long distance player being in Tokyo Japan.

We used skype before. But honestly chat works best for long distance. As long as there is a dice roller built in

I play weekly (well, as weekly as time will allow) with 4 to 5 gamers around my table and 2 on google+ (one in Michigan and one in Atlanta). It works pretty well.

My fantasy game runs every two weeks on Skype, and we use roll20 for dice rolls, maps, and chat. We use Obsidian Portal for our wiki, & after over 3 years of gaming it has over 1000 pages of information! We range from California to Connecticut, with 2 players in Tasmania! Link is in my signature.

Re: long distance role playing
my only experience was with a guy who couldn't make it to a game so called and tried to play from home by phone. After the first roll (White Wolf) he goes; "Guys, you won't believe this, but 10 successes!" We looked around at each other then I said; "You're right Patrick, we don't." and hung up on him.

Re: long distance role playing
I just dont understand the point in fudging rolls. Half the fun is FAILING the rolls for skill checks. In combat, idk maybe because I like supers. Whats the fun in knocking everybody out at once with no rolls??
I also design a Hockey puck instead of Bricks. Sure you can knock the guy all over the place but he just gets back up, dusts himself off and comes right back. I mean a high Supernatural Strength deals lots of damage, like ridiculous damage. It takes most energy powers seven or eight levels to come close.
Even my uber munchkin character, isn't invincible.
Bonuses are good but I'm sure others can fine tune their chatacters to get amazing bonuses. He has energy powers and strength but since to me his focus is getting beat on not one shotting everytning he's fun to play.
With crazy amounts of mdc, the character usually just draws fire or creates a diversion while the more SKILLED characters accomplish the mission. The character doesn't even gave a Prowl skill lol.
