Zombie RPG??

You are on your own. The Army is MIA and our government is gone! There are no communications of any kind. Cities and towns have gone dark, and zombies fill the streets. The dead have risen and it would seem to be the end of the world. Help me, Mommy!

I think it's because it's fun tearing down the world we know and twisting it into a nightmarish and alien environment that mixes the familiar with the bizzarre. Or maybe we're all nihlists. Gosh, I hope not.

Whoo boy what a grind it was earning that bad boy. How did you manage to slaughter the 53,000+ zombies? We took turns driving cars through the underground parking lot, just mowing them all down with different cars. We even had a set route that would take us to the next car before the current car just couldn't handle any more. If the car crapped out early, it was a scary and tough trek to the next point.

Just to stay on topic, thank you for helping to bring this game to us. I can't wait for it!

I'm really excited about the rifter article. Poor Alex at Palladium. I called like twice trying to see if my subscription went though 40 or just 39. He called me back and let me know it was 40.

I'm excited... and this way I can wait for their "Christmas offer" to re up on the rifter.

I LOVE the idea! I can hardly wait! Of course I have recently finished Max Brooks' awesome book "World War Z"!

I just hope that it is "Megaversal" and can be used with other Palladium Games(Like Rifts, and especially NightBane)!

I have an idea for the Theme Song for Dead Reign: "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Biongo!

It's perfect! Other possibilities include;
1) Michael Jackson's "Thriller"
2) "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult
3) "Monster Mash"

As I write this, I'm deep in the land of the Buckeyes, visiting my good friend and co-writer Mr. Hilden. We've put in some work on the Dead Reign book, and come up with a few new twists and surprises. Collaboration is alot easier when we're working in the same room, instead of different states. Anyway, the book is back on track, and looking pretty tight. If all goes as planned, the manuscript will be sent in to Palladium before the end of the year.

Thats all for now...

Zombie song:

Chorus:
Man heads, man heads,
rollie-pollie man heads.
Man heads, man heads,
eat them up, yyuuummp!

End Chorus.

You can rip a man head off it's body.
You can then eat its eyes and brains.

Chorus

and then make up your own lines. For those of you who don't know its sung to the tune of: Fish heads

If you know all the lines of that song you are as demented as me

Go with "man heads" instead of "human heads"... you've got a 1:1 on syllables, then.

A good movie to get the feel for this setting is "28 Days Later". The enemy in this movie are faster than the zombies in the game but the ambiance and setting is similar and could spark good inspiriation.

I haven't seen "28 Weeks Later" so I can't vouch for that one.

I usually play my NPC Zombies as having the following;

1. Sense life force within 20ft.
2. Within 10ft of victim have "Lunge Attack" with +2 additional bonus to strike.
3. Have 3 attacks: claw, claw, and bite or 2 attacks: 1 slam attack and bite.
4. If PC rolls a natural 20 on his attack, the PC is hit with Zombie blood spray unless successful Dodge of 15. 50% chance PC got infected if fail to Dodge. This replicates chance of getting blood in mouth, eyes or open wound.
5. Zombie feeding frenzy. Zombies currently in Feeding Frenzy will ignore other victims unless attacked. Feeding Frenzy involves no more than 8-10 zombies per victim. This lasts 1d6+4 melee rounds. Also, Feeding Frenzy will immediately attract other zombies within 100 yards/meters.

This make for an interesting game play. As always, feedback welcome.

1: Sounds good.
2: +2 might be a bit high, have you tested it?
3: 2 attacks, grapple then bite, will continue to try to grapple until successful (nobody said they were bright)
4: I see no reason to punish a player for a good roll, a bad one yes, but not a good one.
5: Seems fine.

Thanks for the FB. I have used this in most of my zombie adventures. It seems to work.

1: Thanks.
2: Yes I have and they only get the +2 to strike because they are lunging with out stretched hands at the ready to grab.
3: If 2 successful claw attacks then grapple starts and bite attempt. Or slam attack and bite attempt. Hope this explains it better.
4: The Nat 20 is of course a crit. A much harder hit. Some game systems have zombies immune to crit's. This is to simulate an extremely hard hit resulting in higher chance of blood splatter reaching the attacker.
5: Thanks.

I will paly test your suggestions in the near future. I always like to mix up various actions/reactions of zombies as I feel they can be as diverse as live people. You know, keep the PC's guessing and add more uncertain fear to the game.

Besides. zombies should be dangerous in melee as they mostly are potraied as being slow mindless creatures.

Thanks, Big Bob............................. :D

I AM LEGEND SPOILERS!

Umm,

*spoilers*

You've been forewarned....

I hate to post spoilers about something, but the producers of the movie I Am Legend might bludgeon Palladium over the Dead Reign RPG. The movie has the basis for the Vampire/Zombie infection is the Krippen Virus, a vaccine for cancer. The RPG has the Z-Virus (a vaccine for cancer) as the basis for the Zombie plague. This very well could cause legal problems for Palladium. Since we're talking a large movie company, they can pretty much kill Kevin and Co. simply by throwing money at the problem. I would hate to see Palladium suffer for something that isn't their fault.

I don't think I can even begin to describe how much I'm waiting for this to hit shelves. I'm currently playing through Dead Rising on the Xbox 360.
Some books I'd recommend tracking down through Amazon or your local bookstore include: Monster Island, Monster Nation, & Monster Planet by David Wellington; & World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks.

I gave the David Wellington books to a friend of mine for Christmas. He's been reading through the first book, Monster Island; & there is at least one villain thinker-type zombie that was a former scientist studying the zombies, and the zombies in the series feed on 'life-force', are able to detect & track life-force, and the young tend to have more life-force than elders. The way the zombies feed on life-force in the books sounds eerily similar to Palladium's conception of P.P.E.

I have started Dead Reign at our last gaming session. The players had no idea what was about to happen. They all loved the it! Started at a food court in a local mall. They opted to get to the roof and then made it to the security office through air ducts. (Which collapsed before the last 2 PC's and 1 NPC made it. :D ). They found a security guard that had his zombie brother (also security guard) hand cuffed to a pipe in the small arms room). Local police also use this office as well. They killed the zombie, subdued the brother (broken nose) and gathered a few weapons. 2 each .357 mags w/36 rds total. 2 riot shotguns w/50 rds total. They have spent 6 gun rds and 5 shotgun rds with killing only 2 zombies. The brother and one who was locked in the mall surveillance room. The fight there destroyed most of the monitors :D . There are now 4 PC's (bounty hunter, UFC boxer, extreme sportsman, and an espionage agent). Plus 7 NPC’s (The security guard, his boss, female news reporter, her cameraman, an old man (cook), young teenage boy, and one army corporeal (base nearby).

The setting is Savannah, Georgia at a mall. Happened at noon on 12 July 2012. The agent was bitten and the UFC boxer beat the zombie in the surveillance room head in after the zombie was shot with revolver and shotgun. Zombie blood splatter splashed into his eyes, mouth and open cuts. The others locked them both in the arms room to see what happens. The agent made his saving roll (he doesn’t know yet).

The session ended with the two locked up and the rest waiting the night out trying to sleep with the ever-present zombies outside the office. And the lights are dimming and browning out.

The UFC boxer failed his roll (a Nat one). I haven’t made my mind up if he will change since he was just splattered and NOT bitten. What do you all think?

Big Bob……………………………. :D

Already did that, Palladium needs a disc copy plus there is the accompanying paper work.

And the box of "antidote".
