Does running a hover tank require Pilot: Tank or Pilot: Hovercraft?
I never thought about it till now and its weird cuz I think we've had hover tanks for about 30 years now. I believe my players and I have always used Pilot: Tank but no one ever thought to ask.

It makes no sense but I just used Hovercraft for everything.

Never thought about it till you mentioned it. I have used both skills in different instances. Hmmm, maybe need to use both?

Piloting a hover-cycle uses Pilot: Hovercraft, NOT Pilot: Motorcycle.
Piloting a hover-car uses Pilot: Hovercraft, NOT Pilot: Automobile.
I think it's safe to assume the pattern holds with hover-tanks.

Valid Point. But It's not explicitly stated. Though I would, now that I have thought about it, require both Hovercraft and Tank skills because while the hover systems would be similar the knowledge of how to operate a tank wouldn't be covered by the pilot hovercraft skill where as the Pilot: Tanks and APC skill wouldn't cover the hover operations. Hovercraft generally covers all hover vehicles though there is the specialized Pilot: Hovercycle that was introduced later and only covers Hovercycles and in some versions of the skill covers Skycycles as well.Killer Cyborg wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 8:26 am Piloting a hover-cycle uses Pilot: Hovercraft, NOT Pilot: Motorcycle.

There is no way to do this perfectly as to even do it well would require 5 times as many skills as we have now, but what I always come back to is communication. If you tell your players you need both skills then it's fine but if they hop into one of these vehicles with just hover vehicles to be told they can't operate it.Marcethus wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 3:32 pmValid Point. Using two skills also works with flying robots or other vehicles that don't fit neatly into one skill.

True. They use two skills with most RPA one to pilot it, and one to fight in it.Warshield73 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 4:56 pmThere is no way to do this perfectly as to even do it well would require 5 times as many skills as we have now, but what I always come back to is communication. WB36 pg 107 makes a point of outlining different MOS for the Tanker OCC given the different skills required to operate effectively as part of a tank crew. Though all tankers get Pilot Tank, the Driver gets to pick other Pilot skills which could include Pilot Hovercraft for hover tanks.Marcethus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 7:48 pmTrue. Good to know that my inclination was correct.Grazzik wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 10:01 pmWB36 pg 107 makes a point of outlining different MOS for the Tanker OCC given the different skills required to operate effectively as part of a tank crew.
