The Spell Repel Animals

Unread post by darthauthor »

The invocation Spell Repel Animals on page 206 of Rifts Ultimate Edition.

1. If an escaped prisoner, will this spell solve your problem of dogs hunting you by your scent?
Instead the dogs come within spell range, you cast the spell, assuming they fail the save they run away and won't track you for many hours.

2. Posse is chasing you on horse back.
You stop.
Let them surround you.
Cast the spell.
The possee horses take off with their riders on them.
The riders have to jump off to come after you?
Horse will not come back for hours.

3. Does it Repel bats and rats?
Like the kind summoned by spell or vampire.

4. Does it work on spiders and snakes?

5. Insects like ants and roaches (pest control)?

1. Yes, though keep in mind the 30ft range is protentially cutting it a bit close to be casting a spell (especially if they know they are chasing a mage).

2. Yes, this will work (and riders might have to jump off), though keep in mind it is limited to 6 animals per casting so if the posse is larger.

3. Should work, though again there is a hard limit in the number the spell can influence.

4. Spiders I would say no, snakes yes (a case might exist here for no).

5. No, insects and arachnids (like spiders) are generally not considered animals for game purposes.

I allow it to affect spiders, ants and such, because they are animals, and if you choose to exclude some animals, you then have to decide which animals to exclude and which to keep, which just opens up a can of worms (which you would then need to repel!) :D

As it only affects up to six animals, its use against ants, cockroaches, etc., might be extremely limited, as there are likely to be many more of them.

Soldier of Od,

Intelligent as Always.
You make a REALLY good point.
Allow it but it just effects 6 per casting.
I like that as a GM ruling.
