Robotech and minis/squares

Unread post by daddystabz »

How would you all handle playing Robotech with minis and using squares on the same scales as Wizards of the Coast miniatures, tiles, and battle mats? How would it be different in Battloid mode vs, Guardian vs. Fighter in terms of scale to use? I want to start my own game using minis but am not sure what kind of a movement scale to use.

Thanks in advance!

The catch with Robotech is that the movement rates are so huge and the disparity between the slow units and the large units is so great that a uniform system jsut won't work. You'd have to use different scales for ground combat, air combat and space combat.

That is kind of part of my question. I fully intend to use different scales between land, air, and space like how WotC handles space combat in Star Wars Saga Edition vs. ground combat.

Perhaps, but even the ground combat scale will probably be off considering the size and speeds of the vehicles involved. You could do some math if you wanted and figure out the actual distance covered in a melee at full speed and make some sort of scale based on that if you really want to.

So do you think we would be better off playing it in a more narrative style for Robotech and not utilizing minis?

That's what I suggest. Use a map and mini's for general reference for where you are located.

It isn't Robotech, but you might want to take a look at some of the newer rule sets for Classic Battletech if you aren't familiar with them. I don't usually plug other companies in PB's house, but it might be worth a look.
