Tech in PFRPG ??

Unread post by Lenwen »

This is a two part question . Part ONE : Can outside dimensional tech work in the palladium fantasy ? If Not what would happen to a Juicer (anykind) if they were rifted there ? Current issue at the moment pc is a juicer an I had to stop the game tonight as he was trying to do the usual rule lawyering when he did not like my decision . so I stopped the game , an now look forword to some feedback.

Yes, outside dimensional and advanced tech does work in the PFRPG setting, in fact you can take modern W.P. according to the Second Edition Rule Book. The big debate on the boards is whether or not M.D.C. tech stays M.D.C., or becomes S.D.C. According to the Megaversal Builder and Dragons & Gods some dimensions can not support M.D.C. "physics" (whatever that means), and thus no matter what the tech or magic energy level they can never be M.D.C. setting. This is something that many on the boards don't agree with. Personally I think its a great rule as I like dimensional hopping games, and I'd hate to have on errant piece of M.D.C. tech screw up a setting. I do however increase the damage for M.D. weapons by 50% to get their S.D.C. damage rating, double the (main body) M.D.C. of Robots/Vehicles to get their S.D.C. and then apply an armor rating between 14-17 (natural/vehicle/robotic AR), increase the (main body) M.D.C. of Power Armor by 50% to get their S.D.C. and then apply a armor rating between 13-16 (natural/vehicle/robotic AR), and I double the M.D.C. of body armor and apply a armor rating between 11-18 (using standard body armor AR rules). This lets M.D.C. tech be superior, without overwhelming.

The only dimension that doesn't let in tec. in is the shadowland from night bane. It isn't pretty when a borge gets shoved threw the mirror wall. ick!

in PFRPG Tech does show up from time to time, a juicer would be fine as long as his drug supply didnt run out. weapons do the equivilent damage in sdc and are treated as magic items in the hands of PFRPG worlders. at least so until the ammo is expended then it is not uncommon for the weapon to be discarded as useless ( out of charges ) . i however dont agree with Tech becoming SDc.. and MDC gun is an MDC gun no matter how much energy is on the world... they existed before the coming of the rifts so why cant they exist in a low tech civilization if they were brought to the world from another place. yes they are powerful... but throw an army of undead at the PC's and you will see ammo deplete rapidly. and once the ammo is gone all you have is a very expensive club..

It does not have to be outside dimensional tech either, Aliens Unlimited and HU2 have technology that is already writen an suited for PFRPG without the whole SDC and MDC issue. I treat Palladium as a low tech planet in terms of aliens unlimited and write up godlings according to HU2's Immortal category, often giving them high technology (Nuada of the Tuatha de Danaan IRL mythology had a bionic arm, after all).

well, acording to Dimension book 7 the Palladium world is a Neutral Energy Matrix, and Rifts is Negative Energy Matrix on page 65 on the right had side it clearly states that "The neutral energy matrix also means that Technology brought from Rifts Earth will not function. of course it also says that when Kev runs his games in PF that he just changes things from M.D.C. to S.D.C. so i guess you can really run it however you want to. but i don't allow Tech into my PF games, it unbalances the game way too much IMP.

I generally just do the change from MDC to SDC as well. Except if we're talking about a monster race coming from Rifts Earth. If it already exists is PF, then it would just assume the same stats as a member of its race from PF. Otherwise, just change damage from MDC to SDC. (That is Canon, by the way, if anyone cares to look it up. It's been in several books, most recently, I believe, in Hades.)
