Depends on the era and who the sniper is working for.

Some of my favourite primary pieces include: M21, PSG1, MSG90, TRG, L96A1, SVD, SVDK (A new 9.3 mm version of the Dragunov, similar performance to a Lapua Magnum), VSS Vintorez.

Vintorez or Remington 700.

I like some of the Finnish rifles though.

Now the big question - that do you kit out your spotter with?

Personally I prefer a SR-25 or a M-4/M203 for most of my spotters.

A really big scope.

AN-94 since it can take an underbarrel nade launcher.

Or an M-4/M-203.

Just like Jefffar said.

Go figure. :D

My Spotter carried

Vietnam

M-177E2(CAR-15/Colt Commando)
Supressed Uzi
Type 56 Assault rifle(AK-47)
What my spotter used depended on the mission. The supressed Uzi was standard armament of Sog Parachutists durring one point in Vietnam.

Afganistan
Dragunov
AK-74/BG-15
Again it depends on the mission.

El Salvado
Galil assault rifle, common as Latin American Dirt. I have seen Galil all over Latin America.

Recent American Conflicts

M-16/ M-203 as per US Marine protocol.
