But then she pitched her idea to me. The eyes aren't functional. They're there to put people at ease when she speaks to them. She reationalized that suddenly gaining a new sense would throw her off a great deal. As she put it:
"Think of it. You've gone your whole life without sight. Your body has adapted to this with a sort of sound-based radar sense -kinda like Daredevil. Then, you suddenly gain full-color sight as a normal human. All the colors, all the intensity, all the movment and chaos would be terrifying. All the new sensory input would be mind-shaking and numbing. You'd want to go back to the comfortable 'darkness' of being 'blind'."
"She gets the implants for when she deals with people. She still wears sunglasses or her polorized helmet visor, but at least poeple can see that there is something in the eye sockets. She can look in the right direction, or even look a person she's talking to in the face, and appear normal. When asked why she wears dark glasses, she'll just say shes photosensitive and completely colorblind."
After that, I let her get the implants. It was a great idea.
Yeah, she sounds like a keeper (player-wise).

Does she still have Splugorth minions looking for her, or hunting her down? Or is it only a problem if she actually meets a Slaver or something later? She may find it difficult to fight her own kind.
The word "THAN" is important. Something is "better than" something else, not "better then", it's "rather than" not "rather then".

That is a totally kick-a$$ character concept, and it sounds like she's more a role-player than a "roll-player". Wish I had about 10 of them around me. Not that I want 10 role-playing chicks...girls...women...AHH, hell! Sure I do
Seriously, that whole bit of having "eyes" just so she doesn't freak people out and blend it...I've never seen character developement like that in my players in a long time...a long time!

We ended up implanting functional biosystem eyes in th warrior woman in our game, andgave her hellacious penalties to save against any sort of vision based attack until she settled into them over a few levels.

I definately dig this character concept. It's rife with role-playing opportunities. I don't know how developed the character is as a Cyber-Knight, but I think playing out her training as a CK is good game material. And her background as a slave of the Splugorth is always good for the occassional run in with slavers or bounty hunters or anyone else who might have a vested interest in the escaped Altaran.
The bit about the eyes is just the icing on the cake, though to be honest, I didn't know that the Altarans didn't have eyes. I just thought that they didn't work. It's been a long while since I've read up on them (long long while).

Strange, we ran down desparate streets and carved our names in the flesh of the city. The sun has stagnated somewhere beyond the rim of the horizon and the darkness is a mystery of curves and lines. Still, we lay under the emptiness and drifted slowly outward, and somewhere in the wilderness we found salvation scratched into the earth like a message.

Well it's mentioned that the AWW with Armegeddon Unlimited needed biosystem eyes in order to fit in.

How do the eyes act? Are they like glass eyes and always stare straight a head, or do they move. If they move, yet she doesn't see out of them, who controls what they focus on? Do they sometimes focus on separate objects? This could be creepier to a normal person than her having no eyes at all.

Congratulations! You have a true R O L E player and not a R O L L player

Nice character concept and definetly unique. I have never heard of that one before.

There's a reason...and a very good one...that I have certain people in this forum blocked both here and on Facebook.
I can see an illustration of that nearly every time I come here.

If you think 16 is bad...In Nevada the legal age of consent (with parent approval) is 15.

Last I heard it was 17 here in IL, though I could be mistaken.
Isnt it like 12 in Arkansas with parental approval?

Oh alright, back on topic. What were we talking about? Oh yes, Altara Cyber-Knights.
That is pretty impressive for a younger player, or a older player to tell the truth. Did you say she was new to gaming? If so, cudos to her.
on a side note: would a species that developed to have no eyes, also undevelope the sunken area where the eyes normally would be. If so that's just freaky and I would imagine would take some serious surgery to remove the bone or ligament or whatever deposits that would take up that space.
