I've carried Nightbane over into pretty much every other Palladium setting.
The best results I have had were in the PFRPG where I made the Nightlords disciples of the Old Ones and the Nightbane the reborn souls from one of the races wiped out in the war with the Old Ones.

I really don't like the evil wizard spell doing it personally, but good luck

Svartalf- if Cherico were a character created in a point game system, he'd have all his scores in geeky skills and his youtube and weird net stuff schticks all paid through a a Terminal Bad Luck (with more nasty GM intervention) disadvantage, and probably an Uncouth (can not have social skills) disad as well...
In an RPG with deadly situations that character would have had to be replaced a dozen times over[

I personally like to use Nightbane, Nightlords, Hounds, Night Princes, Red Flame Demons, and other elements of the Nightlands in my HU campaign.

Mixing Nightbane with other games is a bad idea.

Raist25m wrote:Here's the background for the character.
Craig Waters is a simple man...on the surface. He lives the life of a typical bachelor. Has an apartment in a middle-class neighborhood, helps his elderly landlord take the trash out, and walks dogs in his spare time to tuck money away for his modeling hobby. He had a girlfriend up until recently, when he found her in bed with some random guy she'd met down at Club Chakra. Some hippy freak that Craig would have probably liked had he met the guy under better circumstances. But oh well.
Craig works for Effigy Service Solutions as a contract manager. His current responsibilities include four separate contracts, none of which is a big money maker. The contracts are to make Effigy's portfolio look fat, rather than add to profit margins. Company one is a fast food chain that Effigy assists with payroll. The clerks that handle the work are 15 to 20 year veterans, so Craig hardly hears from his contact at MacDowel's. Company two is a novelty shop, and takes up the majority of Craig's work time as they are constantly having payroll issues due to their employees getting arrested for use of illegal chemicals. Company three is an art gallery frequented by the high and mighty of the city. Company four is a newer acquisition, and has shown some promise at being the most profitable. A security systems company, Micro-monitoring Solutions Inc. has Effigy managing it's payroll, and balancing it's overhead books.
That's Craig's day-life. He works four ten hour days a week, and has three days all to himself. Usually, those three days are his bussiest. That's when he pursues his real goals in life, and tries to make a little difference in the world.
You see, when Craig was sixteen, he and his family went on a trip to Norweigh. It was a great trip. Schnitzel was everywhere, and Craig had his first legal beer. His parents pursued their work issues, while Craig travelled throughout the area surrounding the Oslo. On one particular day, he had taken a day-trip to visit an archaeological dig about 80 miles north of Oslo. It was a religious site, where one of the local chiefs from roughly 2000 BC was buried. The professor in charge of the dig was a college friend of Craig's father, and kept Craig by his side for the entire day. At about 4:30 that afternoon, the crypt itself was ready to be opened.
Craig, the professor, several locals, and the rest of the dig team stood outside of the stone doors to the crypt. The professor, Dr. Morgan Freelight, stepped forward and picked up a pry bar, and after making a small speach, applied it to the door. A few moments later, the door spontaneously flew open. The force knocked the professor onto his backside, causing him to break his right arm.
At that point, everything slowed, the world faded away, and Craig stood in a world of blue flames and gray misty shapes. Before him stood a figure in a loin-cloth, with various designs painted across his body, a long spear tipped in bronze nestled in the crook of his arm.
Craig stood there for a moment, stunned. Then, thinking of nothing else that seemed appropriate, he stuck out his hand. That was probably the most important and sweeping instant of Craig's life. As he stood there, the chieftan reached out his hand, and took Craig's. Suddenly Craig felt raw energy flowing into him, slamming against his skin, making his heart beat until he thought it might explode, and searing him to his very soul.
When Craig came to a few minutes later, he was lying on his back in front of the crypt, the door of which was now closed securely. None of the locals were around, and Professor Freelight peered at him over the edge of his black-rimmed spectacles. "Are you all right lad?" he asked. Craig wasn't sure how to answer. He felt different inside, like there was something in there, held carefully in reserve for when it might be needed. "I think so Professor. Just feel a little odd is all. I think I'd best be headed back to the Embassy. My father'll be upset if I don't make it to tonight's banquet."
Over the next few days, Craig began having the strangest dreams. He recalled running through a dark forest, sandals on his feet and his spearing being loosed towards a great bear. In another dream, he remembered standing over a man, his spear pointed towards the man's red glowing eyes. In still another, he lashed out with blue flame at a man in dark robes. In the next, he found himself flying over a landscape, people in humble clothing waving up to him as he passed, metallic blue wings extended...
Waking from the last, he remembered the rest of the scene with the chief and his spear. After recovering from the initial shock of having the raw energy deposited into his body, Craig had recovered and managed to stand up. The chief had smiled at him sympathetically, and spoke to him in a voice that both touched his ears and his mind. I am sorry for the burden that I lay on you this day, but it was imperative that it be passed on. I was unable to pass it on at the end of my life to my son, as it should have been. However, you are of my line, and will serve our family's purpose well. One of our forfathers was a sorcerer of great power, and commited great evil in the world. Towards the end of his life though, he came across a good woman, and she ruled his life well, bringing back into the light of the clan. To atone for his mistakes, he and his wife agreed to have a child who would do good in the world. And that child would have a child that would continue that tradition. Ongoing, until the sorcerer feels his debt is paid. There have been 6 generations before me who have born this mantle, and now I pass it to you.
"Do not fear", the chief had said, "for you do not go to undo evil without gifts from the sorcerer. Each generation reflects his passions differently, but you will come in time to know yourself both in the form you bear now, and the form you bear at need. Should you need advice or guidance in your powers, you may come back here to visit us, and we will aid you as we may, though we can no longer enter the world of the living." So saying, the chief turned and gestured, and Craig saw a line of strong warriors extending out beyond where he could see, into the blue and purple miasma of this other-world.
A few days later, Dr. Freelight showed up to visit the Waters before they returned to the U.S. and their duties there. After dinner, he asked Craig to accompany him to his car, and presented him with an odd gift. A shield with two crossed spears painted across it's front, and a Flamberge with an oddly blue-tinted blade. "I'm not sure why son, but I really think somehow these are meant to be in your hands. Technically, I should give them to the company funding the dig, but I believe you might have some ideas for them." Looking confused, he got in his car, and drove away, leaving Craig standing in the parking lot of the embassy feeling more than just a little confused himself.
Years later, Craig lives his life. Walks the dogs. Manages accounts, and saves a life here and there on the weekends. Lately, he's beginning to think that managing accounts isn't the most fun he ever had, and that his time could be put to better use.
ah, that does sound cooler
that said I don't think, personally, that's how it works. but I feel a lot better. it's different from what I think Nightbane are, but by no means is it a bad background or a bad campaign idea

I have done that as well and it is a big blast especially if the player of the 'Bane is a good one.
I don't mix the race Nightbane ever really - but just about everything else mixes in real well with HU or Rifts or even PF.
Especially the Nightlands and Astral Plane....mmmmm.

Night bane always some thing I've avoided using in my games. They tend to be on the high end of the power scale even by palladium standards.
The hounds are cool. I use them from time to time, and " Through the Glass Darkly " is a great addition to any GMs toy box.
I'd be intrested in a running a nightbane game oddly wnough with out the nightbane.

Depends on the game you are running. If your group is all cosmo-knights, demigods and hatchling dragons, a Nightbane isn't so bad. If you're a group of vagabonds and city rats then you're asking for trouble.
