Nightbane Martial Artist OCC

Unread post by The Baron of chaos »

Nightbane Martial Artist O.C.C.
Even more rare than Nightbane Sorcerer , the Nightbane Martial Artist are also quite reclusive. Only those that study very hard what little exist of Nightbane’s history know about their existence and very few are those that can tell for sure to have meet one.
The origin of this particular class of Nightbane is , needless to say, tied to Far East, in China, from a Nightbane that happened to be also a great Martial Artist. This Sifu was disappointed by discovering that his new shape lack of the formal harmony he reached in his Façade, sure he got power, but no equilibrium nor control. But he don’t gave up, and after retiring on a mountain for 15 years meditating and training, he reached a new balance and adapted his style to his new shape. After that he searched, carefully selected disciples in order to transmit his art. Because he didn’t want his art being lost.
Today Nightbane Martial artist are generally the disciples of an older Nightbane Martial Artist , and being a restricted cast , they reduce external contact to the minimum with the consequence of having some problems in modern day life. Most of Nightbane Martial Artist joined the ranks of this or that faction in hope for some valuable match for their skills, because only facing strong opponent you grew stronger, and new experience. While the older , more experienced ones look around for a potential kid to turn into a disciple.
Requirements:
Must Be a Nightbane(duh)
ME 12 , PE 12, High PS and PP are suggested too, but are not mandatory

O.C.C. Bonus
Body Completeness : The Nightbane train years in most harsh condition, in order to find a new harmony in itself, a complete equilibrium between his Façade and his Morphus. The Bane learn to read the signals that his forms give and know exactly his physical condition and energy reserve. A consequence of this new equilibrium is the ability to switch between Morphus and Façade and vice versa at no action cost, a sort of Auto-Becoming.
Physical Bonus(In addition to skill and Attributes) +2 to P.S. and P.E., +1d4 to PP, +2d6 to Spd, +20% to save vs. coma/death, +2 to save vs. disease and poison, fatigues at half the normal rate, increase leaping range by 15%, +1d4x10 to SDC, add +10 to PPE
Morphus Bonus: In addition to the normal bonus that come with the morphus the Nightbane Martial artist can at first level only burn permanently some of his energy in order to increase his morphus strengths, not unlike a forger that sharpen his sword. Permanently burning 5 PPE increase one morphus physical attribute by 1, SDC can be increased at 2 PPE for 1 SDC point ratio.
Hide Aura: One of the first skill learned by Nightbane martial artist is how to hide their supernatural aura. While using this ability, the Nightbane register as normal human to all supernatural form of detection , included hound tracking sense and other ‘Banes sense. The act of hiding the aura increase prowling ability of the Bane too, add +15% to prowling skill. From the sixth level the hide aura grow so intense that the Bane become invisible from supernatural point of view, becoming immune from curse and detection spell, simply because they cannot target him.
Using this ability took massive concentration and so the Nightbane lose two action per melee, -2 point from initiative and halve speed.
Spiritual Channelling : One of the main target for every martial artist is the control of their inner energy, in order to channel them in various physical task. The Nightbanes make no exception, and they got an advantage too: they had an innate control of their inner Ki, or better PPE, to start.
Through meditation and inhumane training the Nightbane Martial Artist learn how to control it , not unlike how he/she channel it into talents, except that this time he channel into his own body on a primal level.
Duration: Each empowerment last one melee round per level of experience in Façade form and double in Morphus form
Maximum PPE expendable per 12 hours: P.E.x3 +10 level of experience
Increased Damage Endurance: For 2 PPE increase SDC by 5 point (note this ability can be used to actually heal damage instantly) , for 5 PPE add +1 to AR
Improved Combat Reflex: each 3 PPE add +1 to initiative, strike, disarm, parry or dodge, 4 PPE add +1 to Automatic dodge or Automatic Body Flip, 5 PPE add one additional action per melee(max +4 attack per melee)
Enhanced Damage: 4 PPE add +1d4 to hand to hand damage, and additional 4 PPE make physical attacks of the Nightbane effective on astral and intangible creatures (each cost 6 PPE), spending 5 PPE the bane can inflict paralysis to a single limb touched
Talent Kata: The Nightbane can specialize in the use of a talent, learning how to use it more like a limb rather than a separate power. In some way this is what they do, they train a part of their body in order to make it stronger. The Nightbane can elect
Bonuses for the specialized talent: increase range, duration and/or damage of the talent by 50%, +1 to initiative when using the talent +1 at level 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15, one additional action per melee using the talent only plus one apm at level 5, 10 and 15
Talent: The Nightbane Martial artist get only the talent bonus at the first level, any additional Talent had to be bought in normal way, but this reduce the PPE that could be channelled in combat

'k, the hide aura thing is something that should not exist for a martial artist, though it would do as a talent in general.

overall, Rediculously overpowered even for nightbane, and quite contrary to the intent of the morphus in the first place. there is no control, there is no balance. some things simply arn't able to be accomplished, a specialised rare OCC shouldn't be able to do it either.

Ahh lemme guess you're for a realistic martial art eh? But iw as thinking more like Naruto styled mysticla martial art, ya know the stuff you see on anime show or on Matrix movies.
Hiding ones own aura is acually quite common in Nightbane game, magic, psionic and Artifacts all do this .
As for your reason. I started trying to think like martial artist, but not common one, but a devoted, dedicated, maniacally obsessed I-live-in-a-tibetan-monastery-of-ninja, type of martial artist. One day you've reached the perfect balance and day after, poof, you find yoursefl with a powerfull body yes, but wiht no balance. To such perosn is worst thant dying. At this point or you give up comletely your new power, never assuming your "weak" (to martial artist eyes a body that he cannot control completely in useless no matter how powerfull it could be) form or do whatever is in your power to make it work as you want it. After all they do the same wiht normal human body, trought absolutely crazy things. like braking ones own bones in orde rot make them stronger, increase hand hardness hitting glass, sand and hot coal and so on. It make sense to me.

actually no. I'm all for anime-style martial arts. but they have their place, and Nightbane just arn't martial artists. some concepts don't mix, even if good individually.

As I said, talent, not OCC ability

I know, and your right, it'd be bad for them....

but see, it's the morphus's nature. the Mystic Type martial arts your discribing are all about becoming BALANCED with your body, learning to use it to it's limit. but, in a naturally unbalanced body, it just can't be done no matter how dedicated. the point of the morphus is it's instinutal, unbalanced, and uncontrolable. he can be a Grand Master in Facade, but it's all worthless when he goes morphus. its the thing, while a HUMAN body wants balance, a morphus body wants chaos.

to give martial arts in morphus defys the very prinicples of the martial arts your trying to use.

uhmm. Where it was written that the morphus is naturally unbalanced? I read and re-read nightbane and I don't see not even a little hint.
Morphus boyd don't seem to me to have such chaos. Because something of the human facade remain. After all in the simbol of Tao, in the deeper darkness there is a small ligh, and in the blinding light there is asamml darkness. And does not this define good a nightbane? Plus don't forget Chaos is nothing else than a seires of many Orders one after another.
But perhaps i should add some morphus requirement(humanoid body, no stigmata and no bio-mechanical morphus...but thinking about general personality ofa typical martial artist these morphus are not likely to develope).

I guess it's just my personal interpreation of them. I see how no two morphuses are the same, I see how they have instintic martial arts, and to me, that's a very strong indicator that the morphus is your "inner demon" made real, and not really controlable.

I guess you could say I see all Nightbane as having Bipolar disorder

seems way over the top...

i can understand the theme of transforming kung fu guy... but even in the anime, the dudes who transform tend to rely more on their transformation powers than their kung fu...

this totally sweeps the legs out from the Nightbane oriented martial arts back in the rifters (which i was a big fan of 'cause they let natural humans and psychics keep up with the 'banes...kinda...)
I believe Socrates said it best at, "I drank what?"

"JESUS SAVES! The rest of you take full damage."

They call me Hadoken 'cause I'm down-right fierce.

hmm... Rifter 3 IIRC...
http://thegarden.neonexus.com/Omega/Mar ... efault.htm

and online...

basically, HtH styles designed for humans in the nightbane world...

I've run with those (had a player run a Special Ops guys from Between the SHadows, with the knives style) and they can keep up pretty well with a little imagination....

As i said i saw most of the problems and this is what I thought to do
1) Remove most of the stuff, except the talent Kata, and add instead a new fighting style, unique of the NMA,
2) Change thr fighitng bonus of the Facade and of the morphus
3) Give the NMA some "Elite" talents avaiable only to this class, and Spiritual Channeling and Hide Aura would end up there, modified slightly

pretty much. probablly should throw in some nightbane-specific moves that involve limbs a human wouldn't have (but usable only by nightbane with those features)
2) Change the fighitng bonus of the Facade and of the morphus

yea

3) Give the NMA some "Elite" talents avaiable only to this class, and Spiritual Channeling and Hide Aura would end up there, modified slightly

I think the nightbane mystic should also be able to buy the hide aura and spiritual channeling Elite talents.
