I have always ran it that portals are two way (I have a 5th level Astral mage so I have been playing him awhile) and haven't had any trouble with it

Protable Portals are useable both ways, just like non-movable portals, they are doorways in and out of the domain. But using one to enter the domain will leave that portal behind till the mage's return. If the object the portal is attached to is distroyed then the portal distroyed also.
