Missing Information-Mirror Walking

Unread post by Reagren Wright »

Has anyone notice that although it says Hounds and other
Servants of the Nightlands possess this ability, when you read their
stats it doesn't say anything about it. Nightlords and Nightbane are
the only ones with stats on how this is done. The Nightbane book
shows a Doppleganger reaching through a mirror and grabbing
a guy shaving, and Doppleganger diving through a mirror at her
real world counterpart, but no where in the info of Dopples does it
say they can Mirror Walk :x Is this something C.J in his wisdom left
out or are we to assume Hounds, Dopples, and etc just come and go,
irregardelss if they are carrying prisoners? :?

I just always figured it wasn't an inborn ability for them, since they're on the low rungs as far as minions go. Way I see it, the Ba'al just open portals for 'em when they have a mission for them.

*agrees with Beelzebozo*

Palladium tends to be complete when writing up critters. I got the impression that Hounds didn't themselves, but were shunted over by their Nightlord masters.

I'll have to re-read their descriptins now to see where it mentions.

The Reshapers also have this, and the description says it's the same as the Nightbane, except for the PPE cost.

I also noticed that there are no skills listed for a Reshaper. :-? Was this intentional, or another one of Palladium's little mistakes?

Reshapers have skills, Just look at the Reshaper assasin that's listed. it's a split OCC description
they basiclly pick any skills they want, and get 10

I've often wondered about that. In Nightlands there's even a picture of a Nightlord coming through a mirror, or at least, that's how it lookes to me. I remember there being one line in one book somewhere that actually said many of these creatures could Mirror Walk, but for the life of me, I can't find it now...

I see two Reshaper characters, and neither one has any skills, with the single exception of boxing, listed in the Eliminator's Combat Abilities entry. In fact, it is stated elsewhere in their descriptions that Reshapers don't bother to learn most human skills and rely on their natural abilities.

There is nothing to indicate that the Eliminator (the "Reshaper Assassin") has a split class, nor is there any mention of choosing 10 skills, in either character description.

Another thing that was bothering me is if the Nightlords until Dark Day
where not able to cross the Mirror Wall, what kept them from sending
dozens of Denziens (Hounds, Hunters, etc) into Earth and causing havoc?
Are we to assume the amount of PPE to transport them was greater then
before?

I'd assume that before Dark Day they couldn't open portals with any regularity, if at all. There have been some hints - like the Nightbane adventure in the Heroes Unlimited GM's Guide - that Night Cultists could summon Hounds, Hunters, and other minions, but it seems to take a ley nexus at certain times (solstice, etc). As well, the energy (P.P.E.) cost may have been much, much higher. Dark Day was more than just a signal of the invasion - it was a realignment of the two planes to make it possible for the Ba'al to return to Earth. Prior to that, they were trapped, locked away in the Nightlands. The Nightlords themselves seem to have been trapped there, along with their minions.

Personally, I always assumed that hounds and hunters can't mirror walk, but are transfered over by the NightLords. But, then, I haven't yet re-read their description. (Either way, I wouldn't allow Hounds to do so in a game I ran. It's just too powerful an ability for the constructs to have, in my opinion. And I like thinking of the NightLords needing to do it themselves. Besides, how else would it be possible, if you kill one of them in our world, for all their minions to suddenly vanish from our world, as happened in one city? Makes mroe sense to me if they are responsible and maintaning things a bit.)

Anyway, before Dark Day the NightLords couldn't cross over at all. Dark Day, however it happened, pulled our worlds closer and allowed them to cross over. Even if the Hounds can mirror walk, they still couldn't do so before Dark Day. Nor could any of the other servitor races. This doesn't bother me at all -- if the NightLords, who are extremely powerful, can't do so, why would their lesser servants be able to, especially the constructs? NightBanes and sorecerors who knew uber-rare spells were the only things that could cross the worlds. Most creatures in the NightLands, far as I know, can't cross over at all even now.
