The Mirrormage is an interesting choice...not much in the way of firepower or offensive spells, but a large number of manipulation and dimensional spells. The spell list for lower levels is very narrow (in fact, you don't have many choices for starting spells - the Mirrormage only has 3 spells for levels 3 and 4, and those are spread between three books), though. Throwing in some of the temporal magic from Rifts England (the one and only reason I'm sorry I sold my copy) might be useful for additional choices.
