Nightlords Area of Contol

Unread post by Zenvis »

I was wondering how you guys give for a Nightlords area of control?

In my game they control roughly five hundred to a thousand miles radius.

What do you define by control?

I mean their area of dominion. They obviously are the central figure in the area but I was wondering how far do you pace your Nightlords?

Here's my take on it:

Shadows of the South Nightlords (specifically applied to the region; includes a map of each Ba'al's area of influence)

Nightlord Heirarchy (general organization & distribution; includes notes on roles filled by Avatars & Night Princes)

Base of operations... I would say, like area of influence. Like, for exmple, Lady Lilith controls what smaller cities and areas? We know that she controls Vegas but what other cities? Salt Lake? Pheonix?

I believe there's a list of what areas and cities she controls in Nightlands. She's called "Viceroy of the West". A viceroy is one who speaks for a king or serves in his stead, as a proxy for a region or area. In the case of the Ba'al, it wouldn't be because of Moloch not being physically close by or in communication (the historical use of viceroys); I believe it's because the conquest of Earth is simply such a large operation that Moloch wouldn't have the *time* to personally oversee everything. My belief (not a canon answer) is that the Viceroys are given large areas that they are in overall charge of, and then parcel those out to other lesser Ba'al and other minions, much as Lilith does in Devil's City and Seattle with her Avatars. Obviously even the more powerful Ba'al can't keep enough Avatars to maintain direct control of very many cities, so they grant them to trusted underlings. Another example would be the control of Doom's Harbor and New York. Nominally, Moloch is the head of this region, but he has given the day-to-day responsibilities of it to Lord Ashtart (well, really Prince Janus).

Lady Nightmare was mentioned in a throwaway line in the main book. My theory is that it was an early name for Lilith. Since there wasn't any other information on her, I just decided to give her a position. That's just in my campaign, not official.

Does this make sense to everybody else, or am I way off base?

Yeah, that too. On a related topic, I was considering starting up a net project to flesh out the Nightlords and cities of the rest of the nation. Shadows Over America, or something like that. Maybe even Shadows Over the World, if we had any international people interested. Give me a week or so and I'll try to post something more about it, if anyone's interested in writing for it.

I think A nightbane book mocking Air America would be pretty funny for a nightlands Equivalent...
(covering Nightlord Political and Nightbane factions... )
although.. I'd have to Kill all mention of Tribes of the moon and CHildren of Dorca.

Why's that? I rather like them. But then, I'm biased.

Reading Nightlands, I notice no mentioning of the South being ruled
by anyone. So your Shadows of the South works perfectly for the game.

Any particular reason you put Lilith in charge of Missouri? Isn't that bit outside her territory?

One, because her near-total control of the entertainment industry makes Branson a likely target for her. Two, because it demonstrates the idea of Viceroys (who fill the a similar role to noble houses) occasionally having outlying fiefs unconnected to their main holdings. Three, because it lets me use Sollen's territory as neutral ground between those three Viceroys - i.e., plot convenience.

If it makes you feel better, it's probably ruled in her name by some semi-competent vassal Nightlord.

I was just curious as to why you chose to do that (Branson? Seriously? Well ok, if you say so.). I have no problem that you did it, I just wanted to hear your reasons. :-)
