Do any of the three books contain full details about what happened on the moon during the cataclysm with the A.R.C.H.I.E's?

Or do I need mutants in Orbit to see those details?

I didn't see anything in the 2 books I have....Mutants in Orbit would be your best bet. I think there were also some blurbs in TMNT, but it doesn't really match the Rifts descriptions when they name dates, so I don't know how much help that will be.

I recommend Mutants In Orbit.
I'm told there might be material you can use in South America II, but I do not own that book myself.

Nope. Nothing on Archie-3, Cyberworks, KLS, Mindwerks, or any other characters and organizations from the period who survive into Rifts. Just NEMA and its ongoing struggles.

Yup.

Actually the CE main book has some info on the moon base, not much and mostly flavor text.

How did you get three copies?

Maybe I can take one off your hands. How much?

Wanna bet a mod moves this topic to Classifieds?

of course you need three copies!

One for you, one for the left side of the table, and one for the right.

I have four copies since I keep one, and for that matter, a copy in reserve in case of accidents. Thanks to my local gaming stores used bin I have a minimum of two(average three)of all the Rifts books through CE. And I have a minimum of one copy of most of the rest of the PB catalog.

Needless to say, when we game it IS at my place cause I am not lugging that tonnage around.

The only info in that one is if you plan to introduce the Arkhons into your game.

Mutants In Orbit definitely gives some idea as to what happened, but there is specific Chaos Earth references for it in Rifter #17 (First part of the original serialized version of the setting).

Page 105 discusses what happens during the beginning of the cataclysm between Archie's 2, 3, and 4 (Archie 1 is only mentioned in the Adventure Guide) more information about the orbital colonies and the moon are sprinkled throughout the text.

Basically, Archie 2 is lost to the Super Volcano (it was at NORAD), Archie 4 suffers damage and deteriorates to a non-functional status (later to be replaced by successors, as detailed in MIO), and we all know what happened to Archie 3.

It's also in need of a serious revision, they took the After the Bomb template and forced it onto Rifts.

The space community needs to be several million people in size and have lots more resources. Ours looked a lot like the space community out of Rendevous with Rama, which means cutting-edge technology far into the solar system but a sparse population, about half the size of the NGR once it's all added up.

What was the deal with ARCHIE 1?

It was sad that the space community decided to isolate themselves from Earth. Imagine if they contacted Earth they could have had orbital killer satellites beaming down rays of death and reestablished global communications. As much as I would love to see the good of people coming together I can see the space communities being terribly scared of something new and they don't know like the coming of the Rifts.

In the main Rifts Choaos Earth they say little about ARCHIE but the Mutants In Orbit book talk more about what happens on the Moon and the satellites in space.

Wow...just wow. I have maybe a dozen Rifts books in total, and I don't even use all of those when I game, maybe it's just me, but I don't often find myself need of every single book I own during a game...no harm in being prepared though I guess. I don't mean to threadjack this into a tangent, but I have Mutants in Orbit, and have not had an occassion where I felt I needed to use it, maybe it's because I don't play After the Bomb. As far as Chaos Earth goes, that's another book I own but I've only actually used a little bit, maybe my next game should be a Chaos Earth game.

It definitely needs an update. The information in the book is just so limited and we have a much better picture of our solar system. Just watch https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8dPuuaLjXtPAJr1ysd5yGIyiSFuh0mIL Crash Course Astronomy. The whole idea of using water as money(IOU's) because it would be rare is sort of out of date. Dwarf Planets in the belt like Eris and Ceres have enough water for all the orbital stations for centuries.

If you've seen the SciFy show The Expanse that is the direction an updated book should go.

When this book first came out I made the mistake of giving my players too much access to near orbit, especially satellite coms and surveillance. It was probably one of the most unbalancing things I did so whatever they do with a rewrite, if it's ever done, it needs to be kept separate from Rifts Earth.
