The Merc Ops books introduces two high powered laser communication systems from Wilks. Need the laser comm skill to use those. There's also cell phones in the book as well....

Anything that can fire bursts and also can fire U-Rounds is pretty dang expensive. Not just in ammo cost, but also in the clean up costs afterwards.

I think wear and tear is best used as plot devices by the GM. For example, if your characters are starting to get a bit too well geared for your liking, let some stuff start to wear down. I think Alter Aura can mask the possession, and there are NPC's that use alter aura to appear scrupulous, so it could be masked.
