Krang is in the current TMNT comics by IDW written by Kevin Eastman (and Tom Waltz). Krangs army is pretty big, they are an occupying force on the planet Nutreno, and it's suggested that his forces extend well beyond that. If you're not reading IDW comics you should change that.

I really like what's going on in JSA and JLA right now, and see that as a great fit. HUGE fan of the secret six and see that as a perfect anti hero setting or a mid power setting. Like the idea of checkmate and the suicide sqaud. The current Daredevil and punisher, are good for low/no power settings...

multipule selves, where one self is the active villian and the other self is a "hero" in the characters trust/team so the bad guy(s) know what the heros are doing all the time and will always seem to be one step ahead.

all I could think of while reading this character was god of war, so I'd go with Kratos. since it's an echanted object the character could be infused with the powers and spirit of a great warrior or minor god. no hammers
