I'd say the more dead rats you find, the more undead are likely to be around (zombie+animal=dead animal)=rats chew into dead (undead) body and die leaving "dead rat." Hence, dead rats being painted on walls to warn others to be on the lookout for dead rat bodies as a warning of zeds nearby...

I have a forum for my group, but I have been thinking along the lines of what Jaymz is doing for a bit now. So my answer is: Both! Use a forum of quick and easy communication and display of player ideas and re-caps of sessions (several of us keep in-character game journals).

RECON would be better for a western simply for the lethality. A farmer isn't as likely to grab a gun and go after a gunslinger if he knows he could die so easily. I might try running one of these soon too.

Seriously, they just needed a smaller grocery list and a well thought out infiltration/exfiltration plan. There might have been NO reason to send two men into the site for the supplies. Just one to man the vehicle and one to secure the material.
