It's exactly like that.

In fact, the Adventures in Dinosaur Swamp has a lot of info on playing those kinds of campaigns, and a LOT of the adventure hooks are centered around that fact.

There's nothing that says eco-wizardry vehicles can't be created. I would see gliders and canoes as a natural extension of the magics. Honestly, anything that the Ewoks put together in RotJ would be about right. However, no, eco-wizardry cannot, and should not, be combined with technology/machinery....
