There is a lot of exciting news and updates, so you’ll want to read all of this Weekly Update.

Palladium is back!

Palladium is back. Back in action. Back as a force in gaming. Back with RPG settings and books that challenge and tantalize. At least that’s what we kept hearing over and over from everyone, it seemed like, at Gen Con®. And not just from fans and gamers, but from distributors and industry people as well. We had scores of people stopping at the booth to tell us they were glad, “Palladium Books had survived, was back, and picking up steam.” That was usually followed by praise for recent releases and excitement for upcoming product. It was nice to hear. Really nice. And they proved those words with strong sales. Of course, we were never really gone, but I know exactly what they mean. Let’s face it, the last several years were pretty scary and there were more touch-and-go moments than many people realize.

Ah, but you know what? I think they are right. I’m still afraid to say it for fear of jinxing it, but wow, were people happy to see us at Gen Con Indy this year. Sales were excellent and we were busy all the time. It sure felt like the good ol’ days. And the excitement and energy level were truly electric. There was interest in every game line and everything was selling. Demand for new releases for Rifts®, Robotech®, Chaos Earth™, Splicers®, Palladium Fantasy®, Nightbane®, Beyond the Supernatural™, Heroes Unlimited™, and other game lines soared with more requests for our support than I can ever remember. Fantastic. That’s our plan. You buy the books, and we’ll keep ‘em coming!

Since returning from Gen Con® . . .

I have been trying to get caught up on work so I can get back to finishing Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook and Robotech® Genesis Pits™ Sourcebook, but I have been swamped with business matters.

Part of which has to do with many follow-up correspondences with artists and writers I met at Gen Con. A number of new talented people would like to join the Palladium list of creators on a freelance basis. That’s cool and I appreciate their enthusiasm. I think you’ll like these new folks when I can find a place for them in upcoming books.

I spent time a good amount of time Wednesday plotting, discussing and corresponding with a number of people about several upcoming projects we cannot yet reveal, but which you will love. I also spoke with my agent at length concerning some potential licensing opportunities and new licensing strategies. It was a very positive and productive conversation.

New releases are my primary goal. Obsession even. I know there are some people who don’t believe we can get the next six books out by the end of the year, but we will all be doing our darn best to make it so!

More Gen Con® Indy 2012 Reports and Observations

I have been posting, and will continue to post, Gen Con Reports in my Murmurs from the Megaverse® on a daily basis for the rest of the week. I will also continue to try to post other news and updates on a daily basis with links on Facebook, as well as comments to Facebook posts.

We’ve also posted a small array of our Gen Con photos for your enjoyment. Click the thumbnails below to see larger images. We were so busy at the booth we didn’t take as many photos as usual, but I think you’ll enjoy them.

UPDATE: Rifts® Black Market – Shipped Monday and is available now

You can thank Kathy Simmons for processing the orders and Julius Rosenstein and Alex Marciniszyn for Rifts® Black Market shipping on Monday. The book arrived Friday afternoon, and Julius and Alex came in to sort and package them on Sunday so the books could ship to gamers and distributors on Monday. Now that’s a commitment to customer service. Thanks, guys. If you haven’t ordered yours yet, this is the time to do it.

Rifts® Black Market was a smash hit at Gen Con®. Gamers were going wild over it. Of the 102 advance copies, we sold all but 6-8 of them. I think we would have sold them all, except that a rumor we were completely sold out started to circulate Saturday afternoon at the convention. I know of at least two gamers who were surprised we still had a few copies on the shelf and snapped them up. (We did sell out of Rifts® Lemuria, Rifts® Triax 2, Endless Dead™, and a few other titles, and came close to selling out of several others. The Rifter® #59 was another “hot” item at Gen Con.)

Folks are blown away by the scope and versatility of Rifts® Black Market, and that it has such a wealth of material for both players and Game Masters alike. I was surprised by how many people flipped over the Magic Drugs, which is a fun but small entry in the book. Everyone seems to love the fact that any character can become a Black Marketeer and that the data can be used in most game settings, not just Rifts®. I had several people tell me that was pure genius. Thanks. You make me blush. And of course, everyone loves the depth of information about the Black Market, its factions, robot riding animals, all the gear, traveling shows, random tables and a zillion ideas. I want to remind people that this was very much a team effort and Rifts® Black Market would not be the book it is without the considerable contributions of Matthew Clements, who got the whole project started and wrote half of it, Taylor White and Carmen Bellaire, among others. This is a MUST HAVE item for Rifts® fans. Note: Check out the FREE sneak preview on DriveThruRPG.com.

UPDATE: Free Rifts® Black Market Sneak Preview available NOW at DriveThruRPG.com

The FREE Rifts® Black Market Sneak Preview is available on DriveThruRPG.com for your viewing pleasure. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for? It’s free, fun and you get the complete description and stats for the Shadow Boy. Activity at this site has remained strong and it is your place to get PDFs of older product and sneak previews of upcoming books. Many back issues of The Rifter® are available on DriveThruRPG.com (issues #1-52), as are more than 90 out of print titles such as Rifts®, BTS™ and Palladium Fantasy® first edition rule books and sourcebooks. A sneak preview of Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook should also be coming soon. We plan to add a few more items in the coming months that should please Palladium gamers. We are also planning to move forward with PDF only editions of The Rifter® #0.1 and The Rifter® #0.2 – both are big, juicy digital editions of new, fan created material for the Palladium Megaverse® of games.

Don’t forget, DriveThruRPG.com also offers the Rifts® and Palladium Fantasy® Game Master Kits (both written by Carl Gleba and complete with maps, combat matrix, character sheets, spell list, and 20 pre-rolled characters created by Julius Rosenstein; $5 each). Of course, there are FREE Sneak Previews of Endless Dead™, Rifts® Lemuria, Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™, and Thundercloud Galaxy™, as well as 90+ out of print titles, including back issues of The Rifter®, and first edition rule books for Rifts®, Palladium Fantasy RPG®, Heroes Unlimited™, The Mechanoid Invasion® Trilogy, and lots of other good things. ALL available as PDF downloads at reasonable prices. And there is MORE to come.

UPDATE: Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook

I have assigned out the artwork for this book and as soon as I clear up the rest of my business demands, I’ll be diving right back into it. I hope that will be this weekend.

UPDATE: Robotech®

We are committed to reinvigorating this ever popular game line. And it is only going to get hotter as we release several new RPG sourcebooks and game pieces of the mecha and space ships. We are still formulating exactly what we are going to do with Robotech®, but it’s starting to look big. The fans we leaked some of our plans to at Gen Con were beside themselves with joy. Robotech® Genesis Pits Sourcebook is next.

I’ll be discussing plans with Tommy Yune at Harmony Gold next week and our ideas for Robotech® game pieces are quickly taking shape. Our plan is to wow and delight fans of Robotech®. Personally, I want to blow your minds. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Rifts® Northern Gun One and Two

These two books will quickly follow the release of Robotech® Genesis Pits Sourcebook and they will be epic. Think of Rifts® Black Market as a prelude of what you’ll get in these books. Chuck Walton had the lucky fans able to see his drawings at Gen Con drooling. ‘Nuff said for now.

UPDATE: Rifts® Megaverse® in Flames

I started assigning art for this incredible (dare I say, world changing) book before I left for Gen Con and will continue to do so. I will be doing everything in my power to see this as a 2012 release.

UPDATE: Splicers®

Holy moley, Chuck Walton and Brandon Aten were whipping Splicers® fans into a frenzy. Their ideas are amazing. Wow. I can hardly wait till you see what they have in mind for the 4-7 Splicers® sourcebooks planned for 2013. To quote the irrepressible Mr. Walton, “What’s the magic word? SPLICERS®.”

UPDATE: Beyond the Supernatural

People have waited so long for the Beyond the Supernatural™ core books Beyond Arcanum™ and Tome Grotesque™, that they can’t believe they’ll really be released next year. I am very sorry for that. Here is my solemn promise to you. Both books will be released in 2013. They are among my top priority for the New Year. Count on it.

Where’s Wayne-oh?

Wayne is taking a well deserved vacation starting Saturday. So there will be NO Weekly Update next week. However, I will continue to post Murmurs from the Megaverse® on a daily or almost every day basis. The Weekly Update will be back September 6th.

Back in Print & Available Now!

The following three books are back in print and available for order right now. Rifts® China Two and a few others should be added to the list by year’s end.

Other books back in print in 2012:

UPDATE: Online Sales

Sales have been excellent this week, bolstered by the excitement of Rifts® Black Market. Please keep those orders coming. And if you haven’t gotten the Black Market book yet, do it, ‘cuz you’ll love it. And pick up a copy of The Rifter® #59 while you’re at it. That was the most common combination purchase at Gen Con, Rifts® Black Market and The Rifter® #59 or Rifts® Lemuria. The Chi-Town Library pencils were also a popular item.

UPDATE: Kevin’s Online Toy & Collectibles Store – selling like crazy

Alex and I will try to put some more collectibles up over the next few days. We are starting to run out of items I had tucked away, and that includes Palladium Collectibles like the Rifts® Machinations of Doom Gold hardcover, Rifts® RPG Silver hardcovers, BTS Gold, Rifts® Ultimate Gold, Erick Wujcik’s Amberzines, and other items, all of which I have only a dozen or fewer to offer. That’s why we continue to dole them out one at a time. I have been putting up copies of the two Rifts® Lemuria hardcovers as well. These are super-limited and the books in the store are part of the approximately 200 copies printed for each of these books. If you recall, Palladium prints 48 extra of the color cover edition and 24 of the foil collector’s edition. Staff and friends got a few, and what’s left we’ve been putting up in the store and making available in charity auctions. Once they are sold out, they are GONE! Other collectibles include first printings of books, signed books, proofreader copies of books, original artwork, and other collectible odds and ends.

There are also a large number of collectible toys and action figures in my online store. All are from my personal collection. More toys and collectibles are added on a weekly basis.

Closing thoughts

If Palladium Books is “back” – i.e. getting stronger by the day – it is as much because of you, our wonderful fans, as our own hard work and calculated efforts. It was a pleasure meeting so many of you at Gen Con Indy. We’ll be back next year and hope to meet many more. Thank you for sticking with Palladium through thick and thin. Enjoy the ride of the many new releases coming your way and game on!
