Palladium Books® Weekly Update – April 8, 2016

By Kevin Siembieda

What a roller coaster ride the past week or two have been. Constantly busy. So many options to explore with Robotech® and Rifts®. Then there was AdeptiCon, prep for other conventions, a ton of work on Savage Rifts®, trying to bang out books, assigning and orchestrating artwork, plus birthdays, illness and all manner of craziness. Read on for details.

AdeptiCon was a good experience

As always, AdeptiCon was a welcomed event. Wayne Smith, Chuck Walton and Jeff Ruiz manned the booth. Sales were good. People were positive. Folks liked the SDF-1, Armored Valkyrie and all three modes of the YF-4 on display. The guys chatted with fans, got plenty of positive feedback and good suggestions, met with one of the movers and shakers at DriveThruRPG.com to discuss future plans with them, and touched base with other business people. It was a good weekend.

Palladium offices plague zone – flu and various bugs sweeping the Palladium Books office

I missed attending AdeptiCon because of an ear infection. It was a last minute decision, but a good one. My ears were so plugged up that I knew I’d never be able to hear anything being said on the convention floor. I was asking, “What?” “I’m sorry, what?” “Would you please repeat that?” at the office enough. I made the final decision when I could not understand what a checkout clerk was asking me at Target, the evening before we were to leave. Yikes. I’m glad to report that I’m feeling and hearing much better, but I had to get a second round of antibiotics plus ear drops. None of this has stopped me from continuing to write, but it certainly slowed me down.

I’m not the only one who has been getting sick. Poor Chuck Walton has been out all week with what sounds like the flu or some sort of upper-respiratory infection. He sounds terrible. Julius seems to have a cold. Alex is getting over one. Kathy cannot shake her respiratory infection, and now Wayne is fighting off some kind of bug – sore throat, coughing, fever – but I fear it is a losing battle as everyday he looks and sounds a little worse. Holy moley! I just sneezed several times! Am I getting a cold now?! It’s like a plague zone here. Everyone has been trying to work through it. I have been writing and juggling all kinds of work, Chuck has been continuing to draw, Wayne and Alex are editing away, but we have definitely been kicked in our collective backsides and knocked out of sorts.

UPDATE: Coalition States: Heroes of Humanity Sourcebook

The original plan for Rifts® CS Heroes of Humanity™ and The Disavowed was to knock out two quick, small book titles fast. Then the ideas began to grow and grow. Unlike most game companies with rigid, unbending schedules (probably the smarter way to go from a financial point of view), Palladium is willing to delay and change projects in mid-production. That has been the case with Rifts® CS Heroes of Humanity. Too many great ideas for gaming and details about the CS and Minion War on Earth started to emerge to ignore them. It doesn’t help when Chuck Walton and I and, well, most Palladium creators are idea factories. One of us gets talking about some idea and the next thing you know, we have a zillion exciting new ideas flying around. It’s awesome from a creative point of view. And it gives you, our customers, many more fun ideas for adventures and upgrading old and new characters. But it plays havoc with our release schedule when we decide to give vent to the creative side of things.

In the case of Heroes of Humanity it means an expanded book – right now it is looking like 160 pages – and it has spawned an entire second, related title, CS Heroes of Humanity™ Arsenal. There is so much material in each of these books (and The Disavowed). Take look at the new descriptions for Heroes of Humanity™ and related titles in this Weekly Update.

There is so much information in Heroes of Humanity about the Coalition Army and its strategies and tactics for fighting demons and the supernatural. More on Coalition Cyborgs, new types of ‘Borgs, Coalition Juicers, Psi-Battalion in action, CS demon-slaying training, and more! Coalition Juicers, cyborgs, Skelebots, Psychics, etc., are all being created and deployed in unprecedented numbers because the CS needs augmented soldiers to help level the battlefield against the demon and Deevil hordes! Plus there is a ton of background about the CS and the world at large, special combat schools and advanced training, plots and adventure ideas.

Maybe best of all, CS Heroes of Humanity with Megaverse® in Flames creates an environment where tech, magic and non-human characters join forces to combat a greater, common enemy – the Minions of Hell. And of course, there are details on how these diverse factions – many of whom see the other as long-time enemies – find a way to work together (sort of). And they need to find a way, because the fate of human (and D-Bee) civilization in North America, and probably the world, maybe even the Megaverse, hangs in the balance.

A player group can now include any number of diverse Coalition O.C.C.s with an array of D-Bees, Ley Line Walkers, Lazlo mages, Federation mages and Automatons, the Vanguard, Free Quebec Glitter Boys, Cyber-Knights, Juicers, psychics, True Atlanteans, the Minions of Splugorth, Lemurians, Archie Three robots, and ... well, you’ll just need to get the book, because it is epic! See the new description elsewhere in this update. Have you placed your pre-order yet?

Fighting hard to have this book to the printer next week! Unless people getting sick prevent it. I hope not.

UPDATE: CS Heroes of Humanity Arsenal Sourcebook

The name, CS Heroes of Humanity™ Arsenal kinda says it all. New Coalition armor, power armor, robots, combat vehicles, and related goodies. Time to pre-order! See the description elsewhere.

UPDATE: Rifts® The Disavowed

Secrets, thy name is Joseph. As in Joseph Prosek II, who has created a web of secrets and power-building that nobody knows about. The Disavowed are just one tool in his growing network of espionage and power. As soon as I’m done with Heroes of Humanity™ and CS Heroes of Humanity™ Arsenal, I finish off The Disavowed and Haunted Tech™ as the ideas come. These two books are stand-alone products related by theme, time-line and interlocking events to Heroes of Humanity™ and HoH Arsenal™, but present their own avenues of adventure. Epic fun is coming this Spring and Summer.

UPDATE: Rifts® Secrets of the Atlanteans

In final development. John Zeleznik is doing the cover. Assigning interior art in the weeks ahead.

UPDATE: Rifts® Sovietski

In final development. The cover has been assigned to John Zeleznik. Interior artwork to be assigned.

UPDATE: Savage Rifts® for Savage Worlds®

There is so much I can’t tell you about. I approved the text for Savage Rifts® Foes Guide for the Savage Worlds game system, just today. I love this book. All the Savage Rifts® titles I have seen so far encapsulate the characters, world and dynamics of Rifts Earth wonderfully. These books are made with a love and knowledge of Rifts®, and it shows. Thank you, Sean Patrick Fannon, Shane, Ross, and everyone involved. I’ve also been going over lots and lots of new art, noting corrections and tweaks to be made, signing off on concepts, products and ideas, and enjoying what the Pinnacle madmen have coming your way. More news very soon I think.

UPDATE: Robotech® RPG Tactics

We’re happy that so many of you came to our booth at AdeptiCon and saw the SDF-1, Armored Valkyrie and YF-4 pieces we had on display. As Wayne may have mentioned to some of you, we recently got some tooling quotes for Wave Two, and we’re discussing piece breakdown with the manufacturer. More to come as things continue to percolate on this front on several different levels.

GrandCon – Grand Rapids, Michigan – September 16, 17 & 18, 2016

Looking for a nice medium-sized convention of around 2,000 gamers? Then consider GrandCon in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It’s only about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Westland, and even closer for folks living in Livonia, Plymouth, Novi, and cities farther west. Ideal for any Michiganders and gamers living in Illinois, Indiana and maybe even Wisconsin and eastern Iowa.

I (Kevin Siembieda) am a guest along with Sean Patrick Fannon, co-author of Savage Rifts® for the Savage Worlds game system, and many other guests. Sean and I will be doing panels about Savage Rifts® and role-playing game design, world building and running gaming events (I’ll probably run Lord DeSilca), and Palladium Books will have a few tables in the dealers’ room manned by Wayne Smith and Charles Walton II (with artwork for sale). All of us will be present to chat with gamers and sign books. I am thrilled to have a rapidly growing game convention like GrandCon in western Michigan, and they have even bigger plans for 2017. Michiganders, help support this convention. We need and deserve a large gaming convention in our state.

“Desperate times require desperate measures. War has nothing to do with morality or justice. It’s all about winning or dying. And you are the match.” – Colonel Lyboc addressing a Disavowed team

We are happy to support events running Palladium games with prizes for best players, other swag, and donations to charity auctions. If you are a Game Master running Palladium gaming events, or a convention hosting them, PLEASE contact Palladium Books via the Help Desk or the Megaversal Ambassadors, or call the Palladium offices to get our support. Just give us plenty of advance notice so we can confirm the conventions and the Palladium gaming events, determine the swag and ship it out. Plus we are glad to promote conventions and gaming events right here in the Weekly Updates. Below are just some of the conventions hosting Palladium game events this year.
